Does anyone know what sort of job it is to remove the cluster and remove the clear plastic which covers the dials as I seem to have what appears to be a spiders web behind which is visible in certain light and its driving me nuts. Thanks in advance.

I asked the same question some time ago as I have the same problem - I said that I didn't know how the spider got in there as I thought it was a sealed unit and was informed spiders aren't sealed units !

I look forward to your responses.

Luckily I can only see the web in strong sunlight and the spider disappeared.

I'm sorry I can't actually answer your question but would suggest a call to one of the specialists, Bamford Rose (Mike has been very helpful to me in the past) McGurks or Applebys and I am sure one of them will let you know how to do it and how easy or difficult it will be.

Hi,

Did you find out if it is possible to remove the glass?

You are in luck it is a very easy job but of course with any trim removal never force things. Also the bezel has been known to crack at the screw points so don't overtighten the screws.

I have sent you a PM with instructions. If you have trouble with the link then email me and I can send it as an attachment. The info is for a DB9 but I believe it is the same for the V8 Vantage.

I just found another source as an alternative to my boring pages

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAzjEjQUH1w

This tells you how to get the pod out (Disconnect battery first)

The plastic screen is clipped in as part of a larger bezel so you remove the whole bezel not the front plastic screen.

Here is the plastic bezel removed it shows the clips and the replacement price eek.

http://astonmartinbits.com/models/4-DB9/parts/1045

This is where extra caution is required as plastic clips have a habit of not wanting to be unclipped so proceed carefully so as not to crack the plastic. Also this plastic costs a lot to replace so if you don't feel confident with this don't do it.

I would like to see the 'web' you have, can't imagine how a spider gets in there.

Thanks just a bit concerned when at end of video it says see pdf for programming instructions. I don't want to unplug it then find I need a trip to dealer to reset things. Once again thanks for the info.

The AM workshop manual does not mention programming of the unit. All they say is disconnect battery take it out and put it back in then reconnect battery.

That's good thanks. Can anyone else confirm that nothing will need resetting. Cheers

That's only needed when replacing the existing unit. Note the video part where it says to note the "current reading". Unplugging the unit is no different than letting the battery go completely flat, and no trips to the dealer are required to reprogram anything after recharging the battery.

I hope the spider wasn't in there to catch a fly - the next thing you know you'll have birds and cats and all manner of increasingly large carnivorous animals in there!

Hi,

I think I actually have to replace the existing unit. I bought the car with this strange 'cracks' in the LCD panel and this has probably been caused by the previous owner having had the car placed in the sun on a very hot day here in Hong Kong. I wouldn't know an other way to have this repaired. So in that case i would need to manually insert the mileage again I assume via the instructions of that 'pdf' in the youtube video? Hope someone has this PDF ? Any tips / suggestions would be very welcome!

Previous owner trying t work out where and how to change the mileage more like........ wink

Odd that the only noticeable damage is over those two screens, are there any marks anywhere else at all ?

Looks a bit like there is a protective film over the display that has wrinkled.
Hard to believe the heat of the sun through the windows could of caused the display to crack in that sort of pattern.

my car is never directly exposed to the sun, except when driving, at work I cover her with my car cover (yes I prefer some micro swirls to have it under our heavy sun) and it is garaged at home, I think it is heat related more than sun.
