SORRY NO PRICE NEGOTIATION SIR - I CAN TELL YOU WHY.
Discussion
Wilmslow has a huge catchment area of prime target buyers - Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside/Liverpool, Lancashire, chester/north wales are all covered by this one dealership
They also are very experienced there
I've never experienced or witnessed the 'stuck up' approach mentioned above, although obviously I can't argue with the personal experience of someone
They also, again in my personal experience (over 10+ yrs, visiting on 20+ occasions and speaking on many, many dozens of occasions by phone/email) don't try the hard sell but play the long term, relationship game. My primary experience is with Martin Wallace there.
That contrasts with Works - I've seen some correspondence from Works to a friend both pre & post buying a new car from them - I find their approach (on the sales side) terrible - they overstate their 'advantage of being owned by the factory' and are very pushy. They even tried telling my friend, who had bought a new car from them 18 months earlier, they would only take him to see new DB11 if he put down a £5k deposit first and they outright lied by telling him the factory would only let them take potential customers who had placed such a deposit. (which they then relented on, taking him without a deposit, proving they had lied in the first place). When I was in the Works showroom browsing whilst attending one of the Bonhams sales, they tried poaching me, suggesting they could offer things Wilmslow couldn't. They wanted me to cancel an order with Wilmslow and place it with them. It had the opposite effect to what was intended - it put me off ever buying from them.
By way of complete contrast, I find Wilmslow under promise rather than adopting typical salesman BS. Again, my experience being primarily with one salesman there.

I on the other hand have found Works to be pretty good. Sometimes they need a boot up their arse but when they get it then any question or issue is resolved.
One thing I have had issues with are the service department. Just a lack of communication coming from those guys.
The thing that draws me to Works is the sheer history of the place. I had a nosey out the back recently and met some of the craftsman who were make a new wing for a DB5 or 6. It's the fact it's the spiritual home of AM really (yes I know there's been other sites)......
I guess everyone has a different experience.

I get that, I really do - in a way, that's behind some of the reasoning we use to buy modern Astons in the first place - that history. I respect the craftsman who work on the older cars (and the newer ones for that matter) immensely. I was sad when my fantastic perception of Works, particularly on older cars and the servicing of any Aston, disappeared within about 5 minutes of speaking to a salesman there - I though it did a disservice to all the people you refer toI guess everyone has a different experience.
You are absolutely correct that we each have to base it on personal experience though and I think a big part of that is the individual salesman/woman that you deal with - undoubtedly there are good & bad at every dealership. I guess the fact that Works is relatively new in the new car sales field means they have to play on what they believe will win them customers, which is their link to the factory. I just smelt too much insincerity & BS in the conversation I had with them and the emails from them that I've been copied into by others

I'd be interested to know who that was, as the chap I deal with is sincere and if you cut him in half he'd have AM written through the middle of him...I do hope it wasn't him. jonby said:

Really? Copied into by others...what's the script with that then? What did they say? Are you saying Works communications need reporting to AM if they are that bad?Wilmslowboy said:
950 cars sold (new) in 2015
Sorry, slight correction.
There were 949 Aston Martin cars registered new (U.K.) during 2015, but that was not the number actually sold.
The factory register some cars for their own use (employees, press fleet etc.), and in particular during 2015, there were at least 30 DB11 prototypes registered.
Here is a little gem for the anoraks amongst us.
The first batch of about 20 prototype cars, are registered as 5935cc.
For those after mid November, 5200cc is shown.

Again, as has been mentioned, down to personal experience and individual salesman - I will add in that respect, when I repeated this story to someone who used to work at an Aston dealership (not Wilmslow) who I know through other 'routes' than Aston ownership, he immediately guessed correctly who the individual at Works was.....

So you had a mate, who told a mate, who copied you in who then told a story to someone that used to work for AM...I'll take that as Gospel then.
Can't be my contact...you mentioned emails. He's crap at them!!
err no. I have a mate, who is quite literally, my oldest friend. He forwarded a chain of emails between himself & works, because he didn't like the attitude and he wanted my opinion. He then keep me (blind) copied into the exchange. We have a mutual friend whom we discovered was also speaking to works, who forwarded a series of emails in similar fashion. I also have personal experience, as mentioned above, from browsing in Works whilst there on Bonhams auction day, when I was approached by a salesman (whose name I don't remember so I don't know if it is the same person as the author of the emails). I repeated the contents of the emails directly to my friend who didn't work for AM - he worked for an AM dealer. Without prompting, he correctly guessed the name of the author. Very happy to accept that we each have different personal experiences. Not so happy to have an accurate portrayal of first hand experience dismissed as being hearsay mate of a mate nonsense

I dealt with Simon Stanton and it was a pleasure. Everything I asked for was delivered and the deal was to my satisfaction. Even down to not giving me the car with a chipped glass key and ordering a new one without me asking. Justin the sales manager showed us round and he was very down to earth and friendly. All in all I was very impressed with Works

Could not agree more. Simon is a pleasure to deal with. Just avoid going for a coffee with him...can be expensive!Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
