Sounds like I'm a bit OCD but after 3 weeks covering the car while renovations have been going on elsewhere in the house, the AM indoor cover for the car is very dusty. The bodywork underneath is nice and clean and shiny but the cover is filthy. Has anyone found a way to clean the cover? We have taken it off and shaken it but it is still not pristine. It is obviously way too big to go in the washing machine and laying it on the floor and vacuuming it was fun but ineffectual. Moreover once it is clean, do I need to put a cover on the cover....? Any ideas?

Trap about six inches of it in your boot, leaving it the rest outside. Then go for a drive. About 80 miles should do it

Really? I washed/dried my car cover after getting oil stains on it without any problem. Are UK machines that much smaller than USA machines?

I got mine cleaned in a laundrette. The machines there are easily big enough.

I'm always scared of putting the car cover on the floor. If you're hoovering the top it must mean that the inside of the cover that touches the car is touching the floor whilst you hoover it and that scares the daylights out of me in case it marks the car.

I have washed mine a few times in the washing machine at home. It did fit OK, the bigger issue was getting it dry afterwards. We put it on the washing line, but we did so when it was a warm day.

That's exactly what I have been doing. I bought a roll of the plastic drop cloth and drape that over the car cover. It's 12 ft wide by about 300 ft long so I just cut a new one when ever it gets nasty.

Oh and it's not OCD. It's CDO that way the letters are in the right order wink

It should fit in a 8kg drum, one reason when I bought a new washing machine was for this purpose, even though I live on my own. How sad is that car comes first, girlfriend know that as I said the car never answers back verbally only financially, so that's 1 less than her!!
Or go down to local laundrette and leave it with them, though there are not as many as they used to be.

Thanks for all the advice.

OK so it was it a bit windy here today so four of us took one corner each and shook the fk out of it while outdoors. Looks to be good as new now. Based on certain comments I am now paranoid that the thing is full of shards of paint-scratching dust but it doesn't seem to be. Will report back.

I still want to drive 80 miles with it hanging out of the boot though...
