How many owners is too many?
Discussion
Having had my DB9 for 4 years now, I am in the market for a DBS Coupe auto.
I have looked at a 2010 coupe which was well presented from a main dealer.
However, its had 6 owners in 6 years and done around 16k miles.
That just rings alarm bells for me, I know they are iconic cars, so would have expected them to have been kept a little longer than on average a year.
I just think this isn't normal, so am I missing something?
Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated

I became the 4th owner in the third year.
The new buyer (1st) was unexpectedly promoted abroad by his employer.
2nd and 3rd made the mistake of going back to the dealer for 'free' coffee. Walked out with a different Aston.
In fact Mr. 3rd told me he bought three Aston Martins within eighteen months!
Perhaps your dealer has an explanation for all 6, but make sure you refuse the coffee.

It does perhaps seem too many, even though the car might be perfect.
I sold my Vanquish in a year, and my V8VR after 9 months to get into my current DB9. I've had many cars - Mercs and Bentleys - for not more than a year or two and my dealer says it's common in the luxury market to switch often. He said the main reason for selling is that many owners get bored quickly and want a change. Whether that's an urban myth or not, it certainly makes sense when applied to myself and a few other owners I know.
Maybe also this DBS had some dealer owners, or inter-dealer swops that bumped the apparent ownership numbers up when in fact it might have had just a couple of private owners. I've seen this happen on a couple of occasions too.
On a similar vein, one high-end realtor told me the first thing his wealthy buyers do on purchase is change out all the toilets for new ones. They just don't like sitting where someone else has. The rich are different

I Wouldn't read too much into the number of owners reflecting on the car, it reflects more on the people that bought it.
Many Italian supercars have more owners than years of age, as people move them on before a service is due....why pay thousands for a service when you can change cars for that same payment each month? thats how many are bought...sorry, I mean rented

As mentioned by others above I would not be put off by the number of owners if all the paperwork stacks up however if you only plan to keep it a short time it is worth thinking how your 7 owner car will be seen by others when moving it on.
This said my car had 3 registered keepers within the 1st year (which included the dealer for 1 day as they taxed it as the original purchaser could not wait for a cover note). I show as the 5th keeper which probably does hit the value a little but unlike most used buyers I have the benefit of personally knowing each owner and how my car has been treated since new.

Thanks all for the comments, although it ticked all the boxes, colour, trim B&O etc the number of owners did not sit well with me.
Although I appreciate the logical reasoning about the number of owners’ I was also concerned about the CCB.
The dealer had measured and recorded the pad thickness and they had little wear over new ones with 16k on the clock. Which to me means it had obviously had at least one set of pads changed which weren’t recorded in the service book. So I just don’t get a good feeling about this one, and so I am going with my gut feeling and continuing to look for another. thanks
