I'm currently considering a 2012 V12 Vantage (manual box) Carbon Black edition with 18,000 mls.

Question is, what's it's market value and would this be a good buy from an investment point of view?

Financially, over the long-term.

Over the last year, they've returned more than a bank could.

I must say superb choice. CBs are a special car with a very low number made so i would say yes a good investment.

I can't see them climbing anymore than they are now so you'd be buying at the top end of this current bubble but until the next financial meltdown they shouldn't see much depreciation.
If you're looking to buy a car purely as an "investment" imo look elsewhere...

It's basically in a market of 1, so your not going to be able to say whether the price is fair really. If it's the one on autotradqer that we've been looking at, it's certainly not p1ss take expensive, but youd probably want to find out how it's got those miles? If it's a goodn you will get the v12v manual crew on you in a second telling you to get it bought, and they'd probably be right!

I saw the ad for it on here originally but yes, after a quick look it's on Autotrader as well.
I'm a bit confused by the photo of the service book, as 'Year 2' seems to be missing any stamp/writing and is just blank?

I'm going to view the car tomorrow, a fair trek but something is telling me I should make the effort.
As it's being sold outside of the Aston dealership, would I still be able to get the car inspected by Aston under their multi-point check thing? Mind you, I've had bad experiences of those checks being done in the past so I don't know if it's worth it to be honest.

Can people chip in with checks I should be making/looking out for tomorrow please.

Thanks in advance.

The check only opens the door for an AML warranty. Doesn't mean much more IMHO

Pay very particular attention to the condition of the CCM's. Both the rotors and pads. Find out how many pad changes its had if you can.
If you decide to put money down, make an explicit and written condition that the rotors should be weighed and be inside acceptable limits and not damaged. Pads are £1.5/8k BTW.

If its this one - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

Then it is either a private sale or it won't have AML warranty. You cannot transfer the AML warranty outside the dealer network unless a private sale.

AML Warranty document said:
TRANSFER OF WARRANTY
This Warranty is fully transferable when the vehicle is sold provided this is not through a motor trader or similar company, subject to approval by the Insurer. Please complete the transfer request and post the complete Warranty Document to:
The Warranty Department, Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd, Banbury Road, Gaydon, Warwickshire CV35 0DB, England.

Thanks, I will check the warranty situation tomorrow.

I hope I am making the right decision by considering this car as long-term investment potential. I was in a position 2-3 years ago to invest in a car and at that time I was very seriously considering a 360 CS or a 430 Scud. I should have gone with my gut and not listened to the nay-sayers. Now, these cars are way out of my reach and I kick myself for dithering and being influenced by others. Not that I'm bitter...no, not a f**k*ng bit smile

Well, I have been pondering this one all night as I was due to go and see the car on Monday.
I have bottled out.
As an investment and at the asking price, I just don't think I'm going to get the return after considering insurance, servicing, storage costs etc.
As a car to enjoy, it's a no-brainer but it was never going to be used like that.
So, emotionally I am sad but also free of worry about future value.
I hope the car goes to someone who will enjoy it to the full.
Thanks for everyone's input, it's been really helpful.

Note to yourself: don't buy a car as an investment. Buy the car you like, enjoy it and if it appreciates all the better but it shouldn't be the primary reason for your purchase.

I don't think there is any £100K car of any make that could be considered an investment today.
We are at the top of the market and the best we can hope for is to maintain values when the crash arrives, as it will.

There are still most definitely a few "investment"grade cars, none of which are AM smile
So for the love of God, let's just drive these bad boys and enjoy them and worry about the money until the next financial crisis!

Ive bought a bl**dy V12VR 8 weeks ago now and in 3 weeks ill be picking her up....Have i bought at a good time? No idea, but you win some, you lose some. At least with this car, ill be a smiling loser if that was to happen hhaha

There again, buy a One-77 in 2011 and you've doubled your money. The crash didn't do much harm to heritage models either. The fact that V12V values have already started to overtake it's replacement gives good evidence that these cars are now outside the normal rules. Normally, there would be a defined gap between the old MY car and its upgrade/replacement as people would rather splash out a bit more to get the upgrade. This is seen in 4.3/4.7 values.
The release of run-out V12VS manuals in very limited numbers (1-2 per dealer per year) may impose the glass ceiling to the values of V12V but not being able to buy one will limit that. No point holding out and not finding it!
We have seen a very rapid rise in the values as people scramble to buy a rare and fantastic car. That rise should, and will level off to less ballistic increases when the only people in the game are enthusiasts, but I don't think for one minute that the rises will stop or reverse anytime soon. Certainly not before the 2017 release of the DB10. Even then, the lack of an alternative HALO model (as seen with the DB11) will give little alternatives to the consumer of super sports cars until 2018 or later.
2018 will see the new Vanq which is promised to be more than a super GT but a fire breathing hypercar which will do no harm to the brand, or owners of HALO models.
As always, no one has a crystal ball but I predict a more steady increase or static values over the next 2/3 years regardless of all but the heaviest use. I'll be using mine for pleasure, its a bonus that its not depreciating.
