Aston Martin DAB Upgrade Available Now

I have booked in to have the AM DAB module fitted to my 2013 v8 Vantage tomorrow at AM Welwyn Garden City. Its the same DAB part that is an option on new cars. Anyone else had this done yet?

Where do they put the aerial?

I have in my V8 from factory although I'm not that impressed. It could be where I live but I rarely get any signal on it.

I'll be very interested to see your installation - it's the only thing that lets down my audio! Can't live without my Planet Rock!!

The installation took approximately 2 hours and requires a configuration file update to enable the new hardware. There is now DAB1 and DAB2 in the same menu as the FM tuner, IPOD, Aux and CD. This enables you to save 20 DAB presets, 10 per DABx. My tuner found 60 stations and so far the signal strength has been good and its a very nice upgrade from FM!

When I asked the AM sales rep at Welwyn Garden City where the ariel is, he told me that it uses one of the Ariel built into the windscreen. Im not so sure this is true, maybe im wrong, but I only see two ariels in the windscreen and I would have thought that was for AM/FM and GPS? Maybe the ariel is in the boot?

It seems like this upgrade is not very well know at the moment, the AM sales rep said they had only done 1 other so far. I would recommend it, ask away!

This makes AD2P streaming possible and adds an extra BT entry (see pics).

Could this be combined with the DAB addition?

I have. What's irritating is that My Audi picks it up but the Aston doesn't. However I didn't buy the car for the radio. I just stream instead.

I dont have the part number, when I get the invoice I will share it. I think the hardware was circa £200 plus 2 hours of labour.

I have not done the BT upgrade, although I am also considering it to make streaming of music from an IPOD easier to not have to use the tiny screen on the dash to walk through a 128GB of Music. Not sure whether it is a one or the other upgrade. AM didn't say there would be limitations for future upgrades of BT but I also never asked the question!

I've recently had the AM Bluetooth upgrade fitted to my 2007MY DB9, streaming works really well from my iPhone. I can also adjust the volume, change tracks from the street img wheel. I can also view my phone book contacts, scroll through them, select & call them from the steering wheel buttons. I've not used the CD player since the upgrade was fitted.

How much did that set you back? I never got a response from the dealer when I asked about it last.

Just over £1300, Aston have reduced the price recently, the same dealer quoted me £1870 for it last year, that was to much for me then, but I thought I would go for it at the new lower price. It's still a lot of money, but I intend on keeping my car.

I think DAB became standard at 12.25MY. My 2015 car has it.

Is DAB actually any good?

I got it installed on my daily driver and It always says 'please wait' for ages or I get no reception.

I channel hop every time there are adverts or annoying DJs so get 2 mins of music followed by 10 mins of frustration and then end up back on the station I started on.

Very disappointed.

I’d never had DAB until I got my V8V, being a dyed-in-the-wool FM man which I use at home, but the DAB reception in my Vantage is better than that for the FM so I use DAB (I think the Vantage struggles with FM antenna location).

I guess the DAB reception you get will depend on where you are, and I never listen to commercial stations so adverts are not an issue for me. If I change channels then it’s virtually instantaneous and I’ve never had a “please wait” message.
