I'm still looking for an Aston and this one has caught my eye on the approved site.

It's a 2007 MY with 41k on it but the spec seems to have everything I want on it. The price is sensible and it's even got the seal of approval from the other half. I spotted it on my phone earlier and now I'm looking at it on the iMac I'm seeing what looks like damage on the car but I can't work out if it's just a trick shadow...

Just in front of the rear wheel where the wheel arch flairs out...

I thought "surely it won't be" however there are scuffs on the front bumper clearly visible...

Unfortunately there's no side on picture of the passengers side to see.

What does everyone else think?

David.

That near side sill looks a completely different colour to the rest of the car!

Might just be the light?

What's the registration?

I had a v8 in titanium silver, that age. Best to take this off the forum if you can post the registration.

Clicking the photo takes you to a version that can be zoomed.
Unless there is something odd with the photograph, it does appear to be a severe dent in the rear end of the sill. The rear wings are steel, but what is the sill made of, and would it bend or tear?

If this is a main dealer car, it shows the Timeless logo, surely they would not advertise a damaged car.

I think the road wheels are non-standard.

You are certainly working hard to find your ideal car David.

The sweep of the arch looks fine and I suspect it is an unfortunate reflection in the paint but I think the sill is defo the wrong colour.

Something doesn't seem right. I might call them tomorrow but for some reason I'm not feeling it with this one.

John, PM sent with the reg.

It is indeed a dealer car, it's at Stratstone in Wilmslow.

The drivers side looks dented too in the first picture...

But in the side picture it's not as noticeable although it looks like there might still be a ripple there.

Surely it must be dodgy pictures, Stratstone aren't going to sell a car that's battered........are they ???

Here you go. Sills still look like a colour issue but nothing that they wouldn't sort before sale. Wheels have been refurbed in a non standard colour, but I like the enhanced silver finish. Check the shut lines VERY carefully.
Go and see it, then talk through it with the sales guy and understand that they wont shift on price so you need to make sure you get a list written down of all you want done and included in the deal.

It doesn't look right to me, the back of the sills can look a bit odd with the shark-fin protection film from some angles but the paint looks mis-matched. Surely there is enough choice around you don't have to settle for something that looks iffy in the pictures? Especially from a dealer that doesn't budge on price.

Happy to be wrong and it's photoshoppery gone mad, of course - but that doesn't look so good.

It's the lighting. The sun is very low so casting very long shadows and the sill mismatch colour is a reflection of the asphalt

Before I bought mine I looked at loads and found many had side sills that had gone out of shape and were rippled. Especially on the rear arch spat area. (It's almost like they had been over tightened when fitted and the fixings were pulling the plastic out of shape) I also found many with slightly mismatched bumper and sill colours. Quite often the flex additive in the paint for the plastic/pu items, mean they 'age' at a different rate to the rest of the car.

Check the roof, I'm sure it's been rolled as well.......

Come on guys be sensible, those 'dents' are just a reflection from the surroundings and appear in the same place in both views. Nothing sinister, it's just the photo. This is a 8/9 year old car that has done 41k miles. The wheels have been nicely refurbished (as you would hope on a car of that age) and it's perfectly possible that the cill / cills / bumper has been re-sprayed due to a scrape or stone chips. Silver is a notoriously difficult colour to match, and when one panel is plastic and the other is metal there's no wonder the match isn't perfect under direct sunlight.

OP, go see the car rather than dismissing on the basis of a couple of photographs, and certainly don't dismiss a used car on the basis that it's been used. For me, service history, interior condition, spec and colour combination are all just as important as the exterior.

I will go and see the car if I get time before its sold.

Reason for asking what others thought is that it's a 500 mile round trip from here to Wilmslow and back so I wanted to see others opinions before wasting both mine and the dealers time.

I'd agree - the shut line on the trailing edge of the drivers door (especially at the bottom where is meets the sill section) doesn't look right in the video either. Maybe it's just the sill that's poorly fitted or distorted, but the paint match is certainly not that good anyway. I personally wouldn't waste a long round trip to look at something that has these kinds of very noticable faults, especially since the sellers won't be moving on price. I'd really expect these things to be rectified before the car is put up for sale with pics and videos.

Not my car.

If you test drive one of these, here's a top tip.

Drive the car for say 10 miles to warm it up.
Fill the petrol tank to the brim (right to the top - essential)
Now take some roundabouts or right hand corners aggressively.
See if the engine cuts out.

There is a defect in the fuelling system for this model that may or may not have been fixed in that particular model.

My V8 vantage ended up with a burnt out catalytic convertor and a new fuel tank to replace the defective fuelling system. Cost to AML was about £5000. AML never did a recall even though it's a defect in engineering and the failed part was replaced around 2007. Early V8s unless repaired all have this fault...

I did this in my 2006 V8V. Only happened once, but was a bit of a shock when it did!
