In february i bought a 2006 DB9 with around 30k miles, since then its now at 33k, its in excellent condition and i do enjoy driving it. The choice i need to make is if i should put the car into storage or sell?

This decision is brought on by a new job which means a rather mundane train commute. I don't want to park her up at the station and have all the knocks and dinks that will go with it. I cant use my wife's amg merc either as she doesn't like driving the DB9.

From what i can see the car may be worth more than i paid for it or i can store for £56 a month in a local car storage company.

So what should i do - hold on to it and maybe see the value change - up or down? or sell ...?

Selling mine was a decision I've felt regret (and sadness) over many times. It's been three years now since my DB9 went. Every time I think I'm in a position to start looking again something comes along which is a more of a priority so the money gets spent on that. If you are not in need of the money why not store if for a couple of months and see how you feel.

Sell. Let someone else enjoy it.

I'm in a small town and my commute is about 1/4 mile. I have an electric cart that is my daily. But I so look forward to my Aston on the weekends. Always finding a reason to go to the big city. And when I have to go out of town during the week or to a conference.....

Keep it and enjoy on the weekends.

Financially, I think you'd be better off selling.

Yes, DB9s might be going up, but not by enough to outweigh the £2,500 of storage, maintenance and insurance costs you will be paying out annually.

They're meant to be driven. At 33,000 miles it will never be an investment-grade car either. Take the money, let someone else enjoy it.

Modern cars don't really like being stored. All sorts of things dry out, oxidise, etc.

Either enjoy it on the weekends, or sell it.

Cheers,
Jeff.

I would never try to persuade someone to sell. I did and regretted it for a couple of years and could think of nothing more than getting another one, which I've finally done. Buy a cheap shed for the daily drive to the station and keep the DB9 for the weekends. You'll always find a reason to get it out.....

Why do you need to store or sell, unless it is for financial reasons of course?

I'd get a shed for the train station commute knowing I was coming back home to my Aston for everything else. I'd certainly give that a go before selling and see how it works.

I don't know how far away the train station is but have a look at the cost of getting a taxi there and back each day compared to the cost of daily station parking (and the running cost of buying a shed (fuel/road tax/insurance/servicing/MOT/etc.). That could be your answer.

The money that you spend on storage for the DB9 could be spent on a reliable 'daily commute' to the station. Then blow the cobwebs away on these nice long summer evenings and weekends. Make your summer holiday this year a driving holiday... Pack the car, grab the wife and drive down to Monaco, Stelvio, Lake Como etc.

I have a job where I commute upto Scotland on the train and work away for 2 weeks then home for 2 weeks, the Aston is parked up for 2 weeks as my wife drives her own car.

Alot of people commute to work on the train but still have a nice car at home,

The OP needs to workout how to get to the trainstation, If it's not far I would use a taxi, cheaper than having a 3rd car taking into account purchase price & running costs etc.

A bold decision, although I don't blame you.

I suggest (in the interests of making this a worthwhile decision) you post up a photo of the odometer today... and repeat the exercise every 6 months - this way we can hurl abuse at you if it ends up sitting in storage not being used as planned!
