Radio working but screen not operating - Any ideas?

I have just come back to the car after a couple of weeks and although the radio works fine the screen is not operating. I have a 2006 (56) car with a standard radio fitted.

The car is on a battery charger so it's not a low battery, and I have tried disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting it but this makes no difference. Everything else works fine, just the screen is blank.

Anyone had this or has any ideas? Anyone have a spare screen they want to sell ?

Does the CD player work etc?

Maybe a fuse - I think the stereo ones are in the cabin...fuse 65? Look in the handbook Whilst it's likely that would stop the stereo at all, the entertainment system in an Aston is modular and logic didn't appear to be a design consideration!

If it's not that, it's probably a faulty screen. £300 on eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aston-Martin-V8-Vantage-4-3-Stereo-Display-Screen-Infotainment-Module-05-07-/201391756027) and should be easy to swap out.

Or talk to Paralight (James?). He may have alternative suggestions...

Or get the Aston bluetooth/iPod upgrade which I believe results in a new screen...but I think will be about 1k. You will be left with a better equipped stereo though.

Yes. I am afraid I had to replace the screen unit. I managed to get a second hand one.

Just a thought - on my Merc ML the COMAND (head unit/sat nav etc) stopped working completely. The fix for this common issue is to remove the fuse for 10mins to totally reset everything.

It worked a treat, so might be worth trying on your V8V.

Thanks n8ony, was it plug and play, I have seen a unit on Aston Martin bits but says not plug and play? Don't suppose you remember the code for your unit?

JonnyCJ, I remove all the fuses I could think of but didn't leave them out for 10 mins, Would this make a difference?

Yep - 10 mins made the difference for me. I was surprised having thought a min or so would do it, but apparently the extra time put it into reset mode.

Not sure it's the same for an Aston as a Mercedes, but can't harm to try

It think it was plug and play but there is a fair bit of work to get it out in the first place.

too bad it didn't go out pixel by pixel. would have probably been pretty clear what the problem was....

anyway...glad to hear you got it fixed. that would have driven me crazy.
