Hey guys

First up, I have had a good search but can't find any related posts so apologies if this has already been covered.

I've noticed some imperfections with my alloy wheels, car is < 2 years old, has anyone else had similar issues?

Cheers

James

Doesn't look good. If you're under any sort of warranty then I'd ask for a refurb. Good luck!

First photo....Looks like a wheel cleaning product has been used and has got under the laquer finish.

I dont touch any of the products on the market, even Autoglym will do this over time.

Very similar to mine, and my girlfriend's. It seems the polished part of the alloys are prone to it. I'm considering getting mine refurbed fully silver, or black

Has anyone here heard of Collinite wax, look here -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Collinite-845-Insulator-W...

The wax protects the alloy wheels, i've had this on my wheels on previous cars and diamond cut alloys and i've never had any form of corrosion, maybe worth a try.

Plus, never take your car to the car washers who spray chemicals on your alloys and then clean & jetwash your car. The chemicals used will make your alloys corrode quicker.

Clean your car at home, I use basic car shampoo and on the wheels just hot water and a soft brush.

I've been using and recommending that for nearly 10 years now
Its great for keeping the wheels clean.
I take them off the car once a year and give the whole wheel a couple of coats

OP the first picture is moisture that has got under the lacquer and corroded the metal, commonly called "wheel worm". Its a swine to prevent on diamond cut wheels, my last 4 cars (including 2 Astons) have suffered from it. All four had wheels replaced under warranty. The diamond cut surface just doesn't allow the lacquer to bond well.

Second picture just looks like a poorly finish painted edge, has that wheel been refurbed?

I'd be talking to the dealer about replacement or refurb

OP I had three of my wheels replaced under warranty for similar wheel worm marks, the 4th was fine. Car is now nearly 7 years old and the signs of it are there again on all four wheels.

My sons BMW has diamond cut wheels and they are significantly worse than mine (either pre replacement or current wheels) and it's just over three years old.

Personally I'm going to live with it, at £120 per wheel from The Wheel Specialist I don't think OCD is worth it.

The lacquer on the wheel has gone. Speak to your dealer and get them replaced/refurbished. I had two wheels go on my V12VR before the warranty ran out and they were both refurbished.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I have never had them refurbished myself so I'm going to take the car to the dealership next week to get them sorted.

Those of you that have had experience of getting them refurbished/replaced, did you initially encounter resistance from the dealer? Or was it a straightforward, "no problem Sir, we'll sort that for you" ?!

Resistance. You're at fault for driving the car and the wheels coming in to contact with the environment. How very dare you!

Good luck!

My experience was that it was sorted out simply and easily. The only issue I could foresee to create any uncertainty is if the alloy is damaged in anyway.

I think it only costs about £75 per alloy so not much of an issue for them.

I had this with another car manufacturer and they gave me 4 new wheels even though only two were corroding.

The reason they stated for this was if they refurbished or gave me 2 new wheels the other 2 wheels would look older/worn or just wouldn't match up.

Only complaint was they didn't use original wheel weights and used very ugly stick on types.

Been quoted £175 each for mine after ruining them with wheel cleaner. I know the machined alloys are much harder to referb as if you kerb them they need to be put back on the lathe

I have used Rimstock for my wheeels, they are the company who manufacture wheels for Aston Martin.

They have in the past done a swap them over while you wait service, as they keep most Aston wheels in stock.

What wheel cleaner did you use that did the damage, just so I can avoid it!
