I have an MY08 DB9 and 45 minutes into an hour and a half drive yesterday I got "Gear Change Paddles Disabled" message on the display.
Has anybody had this before and if so is it anything I should worry about?
Any advice gratefully received.

Cheers,
Geoff.

Had it on mine a couple of times when driving enthusiastically. Turning it off and on again fixed it.

This happened to me when I test drove my DB9 2 years ago, ignition cycle fixed it, dealer investigated it but couldn't find anything wrong and it has never happened since.

When I had my 9 I had exactly this. Happened twice within short succession and then never again. Apparently, no error codes when dealer investigated.

+1 happened a year ago, twice on the same drive. Checked out by dealer, no codes, and issue never seen again.

+1 on my father's 2011 Virage within the last month.

As with others here, I was driving it enthusiastically at the time. Once the car was switched off and on again, the problem disappeared and nothing was found by the dealer.

No problems before or since I am happy to say.

It's to stop the old folk who buy DB9s having a heart attack through over-spirited driving. It lets you have a little bit of a hoon but if you hit the rev limiter more than once it stops letting you change gear yourself until you've calmed down.

Happened to my DB9V too...I think it was due to a dodgy battery....didn't reoccur after I had the battery changed...

LOL laugh;)

I had it once - and yes it was at a time of trying to keep up with some 2 seat skateboards skitting about!

Had this a couple of times also, but as said, no fault code registered. Problem went away after re-starting the car. I found that if I didn't engage the paddles fully or when not pressing the selector buttons firmly enough, that is when the warning would come up.

I had it a couple of times. Restarted the car and seemed fine. Not sure what the cause was though but not had it since.

Thanks for your responses guys, restarting the car cured my issue also.
Just wondered if I was doing something wrong or I had a major problem.

Thread resurrection.

My MY14 DB9 did this twice today. Warning and no paddles or sport mode. I have been using the car frequently in the last week or so, and it’s not on a trickle charger due to a in-progress house move filling the garage with boxes.

Could this be battery related?

It has happened twice before over 4 years ownership.

But twice in a row, driving normally (on the paddles) today has me spooked. Cleared both times after an ignition cycle, and no error codes on my cheapo odbc reader.

Has anyone ever found out what the issue could be?

Hi Andy,

It could be the battery struggling at the mo as the weather is cold and no trickle charger used.

How old is your battery? Plus maybe it could be the tracker giving out random canbus errors?

Give Mike at BR a call, I had my tracker disconnected last year, only cost £60, but yours is a DB9.2 so its quite new.

Maybe it could have any error codes, I've got a Foxwell 530 so we could meet up and have a look?

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the offer, I may well take you up on that if it persists.

The car is 7 years old next month and I haven’t changed the battery so it’s the original. I do keep it permanently on the charger when it’s not being driven so perhaps as you say it could be that.

I’ll check with mike if they disconnected the tracker on my last visit (can’t remember) as I don’t have or require the subscription anymore.

Cheers mate..

Yeah no worries, just another thought, it might help if the gearbox module is reflashed to the most upto date version, my DB9 had a TCM reflash done in 2015 when it had gear selection issues.
