I'm sure this has been asked many time before but what are the current thoughts on renewing warranty?

I have an '09 DBS with 30,000 miles, is it worth £2400 to renew? I do 2 - 3,000 miles PA

I have not carried warranty on either of my recently sold ones for well over two years. The new one has premium warranty which expires in 6 months time. In five months time I will get BR to give her a thorough check, get any warranty work done and then let it lapse.

I renewed my AM Premium Warranty for £1.9k incl VAT, 3 weeks ago, on my Vantage 4.7 (are you sure about 2.4k?) just for the piece of mind and to increase both liquidity and re-sell value, as I plan to sell the car before taking delivery of the GT8

^^^^^This^^^^^

I too just purchased my DBSV, and had BR carry out an inspection to highlight all warranty items to be remediated. I will be looking to have another inspection done again just before the warranty expires to pick up on anything that may have been missed.

My 4.7 is due end of June. Decided not to do it and keep the same amount aside for that day that hopefully never arises.
I was debating getting it again but it doesnt warrant the money outlay compared to the amount of time its on the road due to working abroad all the time.
Come next year ill probably be eating my words knowing my luck!!

Just had a brand new gearbox fitted to my V12V under warranty.
I doubt putting warranty money to one side would have covered it for quite some time. No brainer.

It's an insurance product and I suspect quite a profitable one - so on average you will lose out a lot. So for every story of someone needing a new gearbox there will be 5-6 from people saying "I spent x on the warranty and claimed nothing"

So the big question is a) how much are you prepared to pay for peace of mind and b) can you cover a big repair if something does go wrong (and you don't have the warranty)

For the past 3 years I've had a warranty direct 'lite' policy for c £300pa. It's no where near as comprehensive as the AM warranty but also no where near the price.

Whilst I would not consider £2.5k pa on an AM warranty, I'm not even sure if £330 pa is worth the warranty 'lite' policy as cover is fairly restricted but they should cover the main expensive components ie. if the engine goes pop, the gear box fails or if the ABS system stops working.

I ran my V8V for 5.5yrs with no warranty. In that time it cost me £300 over and above routine servicing and wear and tear items. It's debatable whether the £300 would have been covered by warranty too.

So I reckon I was in credit by around 10k.

Not sure how much a new gearbox is but I've not heard of many failures (just 1 to date). It's going to be bad luck that sees you out of pocket - the insurers would be out of business if it wasn't.

I let my 4.7 V8 warranty expire but I think I will keep a warranty on the V12. It's the engine going bang on me that is the concern. I know it is rare but a primary cat ingestion would be a real hit to take with no warranty.

I expect the insurer's claims experience would be far better than 1 gearbox out of 6 policies. Perhaps 1 failure in 1000.

I also decided not to renew, and that was four years ago. From what has already been said about the premium cost, I must be about £7,000 in pocket by now.

I have a policy that seemed to match up to the AM offering pretty much (I went line by line as these things have more clauses sneaking about than even Lapland at Xmas). Paid just over 4k for 39 months cover (3 months bonus on top). Had to haggle a bit mind... 1 year left and has covered a BERU TPMS unit and an exhaust valve pump - they are about £3800 up so far!

It doesn't cover cats (like most) and what with the talk of cat ingestion recently I checked if that was covered and it was as a consequential damage. Phew!

How did you get 1.9K incl? There are different levels of warranty, can't remember the name of the one they quoted me for.
I got a quote to renew the extended warranty on my DB9 a few weeks ago, that was £2.4K and they said they had no room for manoeuvre at all. Can't imagine this insurance is really any different for a V8 than a V12. I need to bargain harder!

For similar money you could get the primary cats removed and have the bonus of a few more ponies wink

I too had a new gearbox fitted to my v12v a few years back under warranty and was told circa 11k + 1k labour. Also had air-conditioning repaired and paint bubbles done for free so overall quids in.

Having said that it's due to drop off the premium warranty later this year so thorough inspection and will have to decide then.
