My new car is due to arrive at Newport Pagnell today cool

I am arranging for them to replace the secondary cats with QS pipes and also fit a noise button. At the moment the car has a full piano black interior (with black standard seats, red stripes and stitching) but I am also wondering whether to get them to switch the top dash panel (containing the satnav) to carbon as I now remember in my V8SR there was quite a bit of reflection and it showed the dust really badly! Would it look wrong just having the top in carbon? Any thoughts...

Having driven a Vanquish with the carbon dash and having piano black on my own V12V, I have to say the carbon looks truly cool and unique. I agree with the constant dust as well on the black version: I have a microfibre cloth in the glovebox especially for such dusting duties... biggrin

Do you have other carbon elements on your forthcoming car? As then it'll match even better...

It has the full exterior carbon pack, but none on the inside (having said that I think it may only be the door pulls and dash top which come with the interior carbon pack anyway?) I used to keep a cloth in my V8S the same as you!

The Carbon Edition DBS cars have the CF top and I'm seriously thinking of changing mine.

Congratulations, a very exciting time. I have the carbon fibre waterfall and it is a great improvement on the piano black. I got fed up with the marks then the inevitable fine scratches on the surface of the piano finish. It's the full carbon on mine but I also have the red stiching, red seatbelt shoulder straps and black seats and it all looks good to me. Even if its part carbon I would go with it.

This quick picture might show what I mean.

Wow, that looks stunning! I love the diamond quilting too cool

Worryingly, I can't see any break in the carbon on yours (the pre 2016 dash was divided in two just under the air vents) so it looks as though they may have to replace the whole thing - it will look better but god knows what the cost will be...

Yes it's the full sweep I'm afraid. I don't know the individual cost but if you still have two kidneys I know a man.eek

It might come down to a choice between the carbon or the PPF... I have to draw a line somewhere!

For what it's worth, I should have put the protection film on before I drove the car. It has one chip and I am rubbish with Chipex so regret not having it on sooner. If you are as obcessional as me then after the first chip you will be wondering why you didn't have it applied when you had the chance.

Yes, I can imagine how that feels! I strongly recommend an alternative to Chipex (which I found really tricky to use too) I now pop to Halfords and get them to mix the paint for whichever car it is and then also buy one of their clear plastic paint pens which have a metal nib like a hyperdermic syringe. They are very, very easy to use and by far the best chip repair system I've ever used. You have to buy more paint than you'll ever need (about 250ml from memory) but it still works out much cheaper than Chipex and much, much easier to use...

Thats very helpful thanks, slight delay in replying. I was trying out Auto Glym Aqua Wax as a final spritz after the final rinse with deionised water, I spend more on new magic polishes than I should. rolleyes

I have a bit of experience with PB facia - and I hated it. On the coupe it was ok because not too much dust got inside but on the roadster, having the hood down as much as possible, the PB facia got scratched really easily with little swirl marks all over the place despite how careful we were.

We went for it on the V12VR because I only wanted CF if I could have the whole of the facia in it. At that time they would only do the top bit. Again - just got really frustrated with how hard it was to keep it looking good.

When we got the V12VSR they agreed to do the whole facia in CF (for a price!!) so had it done and love the look. Also had it done on the V12VR and they both look brilliant. Picture of both below

Hi Ian,

Who did the car with the big knob and are you prepared to give us a clue on price please?

Cheers,

Nick

Hi Nick,

Q did it for me when they did the bits for the S - you could call it a bogof deal without the f at the end smile

Nick, looking at Tony's CB DBS which only has the top in carbon fibre, I think it looks fine, good even, so will go down that route rather than getting the entire console / fascia in carbon fibre..

Given the choice, probably the route I would go down too, but on a 2016 car it seems to be all or nothing! Also, if I have to replace the whole facia the only piano black left would be the door handles and I'm not sure that would look right? Obviously I could replace them too... if cash was no object

I have just got a build slot for a V12VSR, hopefully September. AML have changed the options and pricing for MY17 cars which has added to the challenge plus we now have an "assortment pack" & "contemporary pack" in the mix. I have ordered the CF Facia - £1295, CF Paddles - £1995, CF Grab Handles - £1995 and CF bonnet louvres £1995. A full length cf fascia trim is from Q, yet to have a price..... It is easy to get carried away but then I prefer to do it right, the PB is fine when new but it does mark and scratch so easily and reflects, I even have tried having the PB lower facia 'wrapped" hence my decision to go cf.
