What are the signs/symptoms that your clutch is on its way out. My car has done just over 20,000 miles and although I havent noticed anything serious yet - a couple a little judders pulling away make me suspect it may be imminent.

Its due a service this month - will they be able to tell if it needs doing? I'd like to roll these into one if it does.

I cant believe its gone in 20k miles unless theres something wrong or its been abused. When it starts to go its quite a noticeable slip under power, you press the throttle and there is no forward movement ...at least thats how mine went

All was fine with mine until 70 odd thousand miles, then I did a 2 hour diversion on the way home through central London, stuck in traffic nearly a car length at a time ...by the time I got home 200 miles later the clutch was slipping

Haven't really noticed either - maybe I'm just being a little paranoid as I have read that clutches can start to go after about 20,000 miles.

I guess i'll put it in for it's service and see if anything comes back.

The first owner of my previous V8V destroyed the clutch in 16,000 miles. Mind you they also marked all 4 corners so that kind of fits. Worked out for me as I got a new clutch and newly painted bumpers front & back. Interestingly, the interior was spotless apart from drivers seat bolster but they mark after one person's sat in the car as far as I can tell. Anyway, if it's not slipping stick with it unless you want to upgrade to a twin plate in which case you might as well do it now and enjoy it for as long as possible. They can't measure the clutch on manuals but can on SS AFAIK.

Stick it in second or third gear, get upto about 2 or 3k revs and press the brake as you put on the gas. If the clutch doesnt slip, its good.

Thanks - i'll give it a try.

On a side note - if the clutch does need replacing - has anyone had the twin plate + lighter flywheel option fitted. If so - what are your experiences?

I use my car mostly for commuting/weekend driving and I have heard mixed messages as to whether the lightened flywheel will cause issues with this type of driving (i.e. in stop start traffic)
