I would appreciate any feedback on the below post regarding V8 Vantage (specifically early models) ownership if someone has some spare time smile

Here it is. Having owned both I occasionally wonder to the dark side for a read:

Those porkers must be bloody bulletproof to be more reliable than an Aston......

That thread is surprisingly positive for the V8V.

I had a 997 S PDK while my old V8V was laid up for a month (having being hit head-on by a distracted driver). No question the Porsche was quicker and sharper when giving it the beans. At any other time, the Aston just superior in every way. The interior of the 997 felt cheap, and there was much less luggage space. The last bit is important if you actually plan to go anywhere In it (to golf, tennis or a weekend away)

I've been fortunate to have owned a manual 4.7 Vantage with the sport pack and a 997GTS pdk. The Porsche was made of granite and never let me down but it was soulless. The Vantage had paint issues, trim issues, rear light came loose, front LED failed and it cost three times more to insure vs the Porsche. But, it made me smile just looking at it and driving it was very special.

I really miss the Vantage and despite the monetary deficit between the cars I will buy another one (with the heart and not the head).

I test drove a V8V 4.3 & a Std 997 Carrera back to back, the Vantage is oh so gorgeous with a nicer interior. A bit too shouty for me & the drive was niwhere near as focussed as the Pork.

Much though I wanted to love the Vantage I just couldn't, would still have one if money no object though!
Fantastic cars the both of them, just depends what you want out of the ownership experience.

Cab's a lot better looking than the coupe IMHO! Other way round with the V8V.

Have a 996c4 cab and a DB9, have driven a few V8 Vantage's. Porsche is a great car and great value for money 2nd hand, but they are not an Aston. Simple Aston is always an occasion when driven, Porsche is just a good car and well made, have owned 4 previous Porsches. It was the Aston that was the dream car.

Had 997.2 C2 for four years.

I've had my Aston Vantage N430 since June.

Easiest decision I've ever made , Aston every time.

Go on then. If it was a rhetorical question though, you'll have to indulge me biggrin

Well the simple truth is - I couldn't answer that question which is why I ended up with both! I had decided to chop in the c4s against the vantage and when I went to the dealer to make the arrangements they offered me what I felt was a derisory amount so I took great pleasure in telling them to forget it and that I would have both! I've not regretted that.

They are very different cars. I love the sense of occasion with the Aston. I hardly drive it which makes it more special. I am terrified of leaving it in car parks because it is so pristine! It draws far more affection and good will than the Porsche. With the PSE they both sound amazing. The Porsche drives better, is better balanced and the 4wd makes the tightest of corners a breeze. The lines of the cab really suit the c4s in a way that they don't suit the narrow cars. I'm not a massive fan of the vantage roadster - it loses a lot of its coupe form beauty.

You see Porsches everywhere. They are special to drive but not special to behold. They are not cool.
You don't see Astons often. They are special to drive and to behold. They are cool.

They both have issues as mentioned elsewhere in this thread. You''ll need the same four figure fund each year to keep on top of maintenance.

But you won't regret either (as long as you avoid lemons, and buying from a dealer is no guarantee of that) and you can always change your mind and try the other afterwards. Or do as I did and have both......

That pretty much sums it up, apart from the bit about 4WD!

Not quite the same, I know, but I've had the 911 (996) Turbo and have a DB9.

The Porker is technically the better car, there is no doubt. But it can't come close to the Aston Martin ownership experience. The sense of occasion, the looks and compliments, being let in at junctions all the time! The Aston generates so much respect and is always a talking point.

The 911 is an incredible feat of engineering (certainly the Turbo), but it doesn't offer any of this.
