HELP please.

Mrs T and I had another fabulous time with AMOC at Brands today, with her "new" 2008 V8 Vantage; Tweety-Pie. She even took it round the track in the parade - never thought I'd see that!

Unfortunately, the day started badly when a lovely lady in a Vanquish - totally innocently - opened her door onto the Vantage. Grossly embarrassing for all concerned. Nasty chip now in centre of door.

The problems are, this was Mrs T's birthday present, now her pride & joy and it has SUNBURST YELLOW paint.

They tell me this is a three-stage pearlescent paint that was/is a very expensive option, difficult to apply and "a nightmare to match".

So I don't think my local chip/dent repairer or spray shop will be up to the task of blending in the chip in the paint for such a prominent colour - which obviously makes the car what it is.

Any ideas who would do a good enough job, possibly on the whole door so that we won't see the difference, even in bright sunlight ?

Thanking you in advance.

E.T.

Claim on the other parties insurance and get it done properly.....the most obvious would be works service.....thief paint shop is second to none....but hefty in price.....still if the others are paying...

Works Service on the insurance of the other person.

They did an outstanding job on painting my Mako blue car which is also a pretty tricky colour to match...

Guys it's clearly not going to be an insurance job (or have you all managed to find policies with £100 excesses on

So maybe some alternative suggestions rather just picking the most expensiven place you know might be helpful to the OP

I'd certainly recommend Chiltern Aston as one alternative to WS whom in sure are very good (but expensive)

Where in the country are you?

Er, how do you mean?

It's a no-fault claim by the OP against the lady who drives/owns the Vanquish. As such, the excess is irrelevant to the OP?

I didn't pick the most expensive place I know, I picked the best, based on my experience of them performing repair and respray to my car...

I think you and I must think about these things slightly differently

Just because it was the other lady's fault doesn't mean you automatically take her to the cleaners. She is clearly not going to put it through her insurance, I don't think any of us would for something that should be hundreds not thousands of pounds

It's also clear from the tone of the OPs post that he also has a degree of sympathy, as would most of us, she's a fellow Aston Martin owner. It was a simple accident

So how about some alternative suggestions of places that will do a perfect job to give him some choice? Rather than defaulting to just the most expensive place (prize for anyone who can get a paint job quote higher than WS)

I think I'm somewhere in between on this. For me the repair would have to be completely invisible/perfect which excludes most paint shops particularly with a tricky colour. This may involve painting several panels so the cost may be more than a few hundred pounds. The decision on whether or not it is an insurance job lies with the person at fault but I'm sure you're right that a claim wouldn't really make sense.

The OP needs to tell us which part of the country he's from if he really wants recommendations rather than just seeking our approval on "taking her to the cleaners". In my area Chartwells are the approved AML paint shop and the minor work I've had done on both my Astons has been invisible/perfect so I would definitely recommend them. I'm sure they are expensive but haven't seen the costs as it was "warranty" work in both cases.

Quite offensive that you suggest my position is to take the lady "to the cleaners".

The bare facts are reasonably clear, an incident happened and it clear who is at fault. I would expect that most of us would want to put the victim of that incident back to the situation they were in before that event happened. If I bashed your car, I would make good your losses and apologise, I would expect the same from the Vanquish owner.

As such I would not expect the person who owned the damaged car to put up with anything less than the standard of work that he or she would expect for their car. For me, when I have had repairs done I have done that at Works Service. I would not expect someone else to take a lower quality of service to save me a few pounds.

So yes, we do see things differently, I would pick up the tab for the work and apologise, not try and pay less for a potentially lower quality of work.

If I could prove that another place could perform the work to the same or higher standard then sure, take the car elsewhere. But having had respray work performed by Aston Martin main dealers and needing three attempts to get the repair done, I am somewhat unsure of where else to go, hence my recommendation of the one place where I have had high quality repair and respray work done.

Gentlemen,
As always P.H. Members provide fantastic response to others in distress.

However, the last thing I wanted to do was cause any more grief on here !

I posted the request because Sunburst is we believe, such a stunning but difficult colour to deal with and knowing our own local AML dealer sub-contacts their paintwork out and hearing tales of woe from other AMOC Members about paint jobs from so-called specialists, we need advice from people who have had actual good experiences with this type of pearlescent paint problem.

The car is based near Brentwood in Essex and we are happy to travel to get a "proper job" done but we would obviously hope to keep it within say 50 miles as time is so precious these days.

As far the incident and responsibility is concerned, whilst I do not want to go into too much detail, the couple are new AMOC Members who ironically, say they joined following, amongst other things, a conversation with US in Feb and this was their very first Club event ! The gentleman was actually explaining this to me, when his good lady wife opened her door. She did not know they were so close and probably didn't realise how big a Vanquish door is.

The gentleman was deeply apologetic and I believe the incident all but reduced his poor wife to tears. This was clearly NOT how they hoped to embark on their AMOC Membership. He gave me his card, took my number and asked us to get the matter sorted ASAP and send him the bill.

He walked up to us again towards the end of the day and reminded us not to dwell on a resolution. So a thorough gentleman - as we have found almost all AMOC Members to be and acted in a manner that I hope most of us would also have done, given the circumstances.

So I am not minded to take advantage of these good people in any way but as has been pointed out to us by a number of people now, there is a blemish where there was not before and not of our doing. We had planned to enter the car in Autumn Concours and given the colour that it is, the paint is frankly everything about the car.

So those of you who can vouch for paint specialists who can "lose" this blemish on the driver's door so that that it blends in with the rest of the immaculate paintwork, we would be very grateful for their contact details.

From the replies here, Works, does seem to be a common suggestion and N.P at around 70 miles, could be a good option.

Whomever we use, I fear will not be "cheap".

So please Gentlemen, who would you recommend ?

Again, thank you thus far.

KDR.

Sorry to read about your damage.

I presume that 'totally innocently' means without intent, but stupidly careless.

Paddy (forum detailer), often recommends a firm in Crawley, think called
SL Restorations. Probably within 50 miles. He talks very highly of their quality, but probably at an equivalent cost.

Sorry to hear about this, and it seems that you are trying to do the right thing. I have to get both doors resprayed on my 07 V8V and went to Lone Pine near Olney, which is 10 miles from Newport Pagnell. Michael Hughes was the person I saw and they do some of the NP work that AM don't have time to do. They are very well reccomended and I am going to get both doors done by them. They quoted £1,000 + VAT for both so competitive given the other quote I had. They know all about the cars and had 4 DB5 in there that I counted, all for bare metal resprays- quite astounding! 01604 696 236. Hope that helps. Chris

I had the lacquer coming off the rear bumper of my V8V. Not exactly the same damage but it required a respray and re-lacquer.
I have a Fire Red which according to Works is not the easiest to match and isn't a common Aston colour.
Hence their quote of around 1500.
After going on here all said that it shouldn't be that much to sort, I looked elsewhere.
So I went to the local place that did my 911 C4S on a previous ding and they quoted 500 but in the end cost I think 350.
I cant tell the difference....

The moral is, the most expensive may not be the only place you can go to. The place I took it to you would really have to go there on the back of recommendations as it doesn't look "posh", but when you go past the "dead dog" at the entrance, the local radio station blaring in the background, the Bentley's, Porsche and odd Ferrari show otherwise.
