First off... Hello to all on the Aston side of the fence. As per the title just chopped the 997 tt in for a V12V I definitely know which I prefer but was wondering if anyone has done a similar move and what their thoughts are? Also are there any recurring or known/ common faults to keep an eye on...

Hello and welcome. Previous 997GT3 owner now have a V12V. Common problem of the V12V is not getting driven enough!!
You're gonna have a hoot, and maybe a niggle along the way but no problems to report from mine after 6 years ownership.
Which one did you get - pics pics pics!!

Not a tt but I went from a Carrera S to V8V to V12V and now in-line for a V12VSRM. Don't think you'll regret it, I certainly didn't.

Now just to get rid of the bloody username....mad

Just to be clear, you do know that you can change it yourself don't you?

Hopefully no incoming parrot!

Absolutely stunning car and I don't think you will regret swapping from the Porsche for a second. I had a 996 Turbo and as fantastic machines as they are, they just don't compare to an Aston. Very well done!beer

I've just chopped a 2005 997 S in for a 2008 DB9 with sport pack. There is no comparison. Firstly, there is the worry of the ticking time bomb of both IMS and more often, bore scoring on the 911. It was always a worry with ownership - niggling the back of your mind when you press on. The Porsche is a stunning engineering masterpiece, and probably quicker from A to B than the Aston. However, even looking at the Aston makes the hairs on the back of your neck rise - it is that achingly beautiful from every single angle. Then there's the starting. Pressing that button and hearing the starter motor 'whirrrrrrrr' before ignition is simply intoxicating.

The Aston isn't about engineering for me. It's about how it goes about it's business and how it makes you feel.

Driving it is an EVENT.

And it always will be for me.

Happy days!

You are right haworthj, Porsche has so many engine problems lurking i can't believe that they have this built proof reputation, rubbish.
Enjoy your Aston.
