I'm plotting to take my 2006 V8 Vantage to Snetterton this evening for the track session. My car is completely standard including fuse 22 being in the ashtray.

Does anybody have experience of a Vantage noise test? i.e. what revs and how many dBs did it register? I'm assuming that putting the fuse back in will have no effect at the test revs.

A search on here produced random results and google just found a story of a chap scoring 111dB and being shown the exit. yikes

Most noise tests I've done have been at 3 - 3.5k so with the fuse back in, you should be well within limits. It depends on the track requirements at the prevailing time, though.

Thanks, but after a bit mote research, l see that MSV say 3/4 maximum revs at 0.5m, midway between the exhausts. The limit for evening sessions is 102dB. Max revs on my 4.3 is 7000 rpm, and 3/4 x 7000 is 5250 rpm.

So my question really is: How loud is a 4.3 Vantage at 5250 rpm when tested as above?

OK, I'm now feeling reasonably confident that my Vantage will pass the noise test.

I put a £50 Maplins noise meter on an axel stand 0.5m behind the car, midway between the exhausts. This recorded a worrying 73dB at idle but only 95.6dB at 5250rpm.

I'll report back later. Hopefully Mr Noise-Tester isn't an angry local resident!

A few of us did croft earlier this year. Limit was 105db. I bought a sound meter from Maplin and setup the test at home to have an idea where the car was. I ended up at about 107 at what I thought would be the correct rev range so I fabricated a temporary silencer out of beer cans and wire wool which worked and got me through at about 93db. The standard 4.3s were under 95db. As the vantage has no redline on the rev counter they were asking for 3,500-4,000rpm.

Well, l raised the revs gradually, rather than stamping on the throttle. I may have gone to 5300, but no more. The very nice noise testing man said OK, (after ramarking that the paintwork was beautiful). When I asked what the number was he said 100dB.
,
So, no noise restriction problems at all, even when I was screaming past the start/finish gantry (where the drive-by noise level is monitored) at 4/4ths throttle. To be honest, I'm pleasantly surprised that the 'thing that goes ping' didn't, put me over the limit.
