Sportshift 1 driving help
Discussion
So I've got used to sportshift driving. Lifting on change and I've got it down pretty well.
My one issue is from 1st to 2nd. I always get that jolt/shunt as if I've let the clutch out too fast on a manual.
I do the clutch learns. Out of interest what noise am I listening for. I hear so many on start up in neutral with my foot on the brake.
What rpm do you usually change from first to 2nd. Maybe I'm changing too low?

From Frequently Asked Questions post:-
V8 Vantage:
Sportshift 1 (ASM1) Whilst generally good and liked by owners with it they do need a clutch learn occasionally to get the best / smoothest gear change
From cold and with the air conditioning turned off, foot on brake and start car, hold brake for 10 secs or so until you hear the clutch 'click'. Switch off and then repeat the process 3 or 4 times. The immediate difference is how much smoother it became at slow speeds, for instance manoeuvring in tight spaces in now a lot easier than when it would lurch forward before.

When you start a car from cold with Sportshift I you should let the car idle for circa 10-15 seconds (I have the AC off at start up.
You should then hear a "click" which is caused by the clutch doing a self diagnosis and calibration "kiss" (commonly known as a "clutch learn"). My car is a V8VR with Sportshift I and I have found that it benefits the clutch operation & smoothness to do a clutch learn every time I start the car, and every month or so I do 3-4 clutch learns in straight succession.
I have not encountered the jolt you describe between 1st and 2nd, but a judder is common when pulling away in 1st gear.
I never use D mode and use the paddle shift 100%

The jolt comes more when shifting from 1st to 2nd as if I'm not lifting slightly on the change, which I am. All other shifts up are smooth as I lift off slightly. I just can't seem to get 1-2 downn...
What rpm do you usually change from 1st to second in casual & spirited driving?
Thanks for the clutch learn info above too.

I have the same issue, but mine is inconsistent and sometimes more severe ie crunch into second gear
. Always seems to be related to letting it do or not doing clutch learns after every restart. If you drive in a sprited manner then the Sportshift gear change adapts and does become more aggressive (AM call it Hypershift) but this would occur at gear changes of circa 4000 RPM and above and there is a gear change jolt as opposed to casual driving when this does not occur.
I cannot remember exactly but i think when my car is atarted from cold it may not allow me to select 2nd gear until a certain RPM / speed? Perhaps you are trying to go into 2nd at the borderline RPM / speed.
I like the Sportshift gearbox, but there is no doubt it prefers to be changing gear at speed and is not at its best in slow moving traffic at slow speeds when it gets a bit clunky.

You need to lift a bit longer for the 1-2 change than you do for the 2-3 change, etc. Each higher change requires less of a lift than the previous one, but it is not really noticeable, except for the 1-2 change.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
