Looks promising for a test mule, sounds ok too. Speedraser will be placing a deposit as we speak, no doubt hehe.

Lots of DB10/11 in the car, but obviously not something to put a lot of stock in. Not a big fan of the exhaust note - agree that it's a bit Harley, which I'm not a fan of. Hopefully it sounds better at high revs!

Wonder if they have 'hidden' either end of the grille on that and that it will retain the gorgeous trademark AM olde grille?

Sounds very 'truckish' to me; not a good sound.

I put the sound through big speakers.

Listened carefully to the on-track piece, with higher engine revs.

Thought it very 1960s Ford Mustang, with a low throb sound.

Oh dear!

Im sure with modern technology to model the sound, they can make the finished product sound how they want. Didnt the original Vantage have like 150+ attempts at the real exhaust before sign off ? (pre expensive simulation computer they have know)

That's what the Mercedes GT sounds like to me. Like an old Chevy truck V8.

I'm not a big fan of the sound at this stage but as has been said that may improve with development and become less AMG-like. Definitely sounds like a Dual Clutch Transmission in the first 20s of the video though. I'm sure this is the right direction to go to satisfy the journos (and hence most of the buying public) but I thought Andy Palmer wasn't a fan.

Calm yourselves chaps, it's early days. The body is clearly camouflaged with added panels and as Pete says, the exhaust note may go through several iterations before being signed off. As for the gearbox, how many times have I read that owners are dissatisfied with the SSII/III, as it's not as good as competitors? Surely a dual clutch system will place the new Vantage where it needs to be in the marketplace? Let's hope there's a manual version too, of course. I understand that the new Vantage is a very special car.

Off the shelf Mercedes engine in an Aston -- NO NO NO! (How's that, Gettoff wink ) Someone else's engine in an Aston completely wrecks the appeal for me and damages the credibility of the marque. Palmer must recognize this at least to some degree, since they went through the effort and expense to have a new Aston V12 rather than use a Benz one. Can anyone imagine a Ferrari with a Benz engine? Of course not, and it should be no different for Aston.

In other news... It may look great, though I don't like the mirrors at all -- makes the A-posts look like they're broken at their base.

I mean - heaven forbid a Pagani Zonda with an AMG engine, or a McLaren F1 with a BMW power train, or perhaps an Audi Q7 with a VW Toureg derived lump, or a Lotus with a Toyota Engine, or an Original Vanquish with a Ford lump.

The source of the engine doesn't ruin the credibility - but I would concur that Aston need to use it properly. I'm sure it's going to be in the appropriate state of tune with all the required noises in all of the right places. Maybe we can go back through the PH archives to the launch of the DB7. Sure we'll see a similar theme smile

Don't panic Captain Manwaring wink

Do not worry, putting someones elses engine in an Aston is just about as likely as Donald Trump being your next president, now that would damage credibility.
