Tyre fitting V12S, Cambs
Discussion
I know the tyre thing has been done to death on here so apologies up front.
AM won't fit my chosen tyres the Michelin Pilot Sports for me and have planted a seed of doubt in my head about the care required to fit tyres to the Carbon braked cars.
Is this true? My logic says that as long as the tyre/wheel is balanced correctly and care is taken when removing and refitting then there is no reason why a competent tyre fitters can't be used.
Also based on my thoughts being correct any recommendations for suitable tyre fitters in and around Cambridge.
Thanks in advance

Well you definitely don't want the "new lad" on the job however any competent performance tyre retailer can handle it.
How about the people who supplied you the Michelin tyres?
Oh, and did you hear the one about the tyre fitter using the wrong point for jacking and destroying the chassis ??

(True story)I'm interested in this too.. I seem to remember issues or quite possibly a myth, to do with the need to compensate for the unbalanced CCM discs by adding the required weight offset to the wheels. If this is in fact true, then your average fitter will balance just the wheel and tyre causing vibration / wobble..
When I bought my DBSV I had a balancing issue, which the main dealer resolved but I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the CCM'S.

Not a myth. Early DBSs were plagued with CCM imbalance, solved finally by balancing the front wheels to compensate. There is a factory SB detailing how this is done. The problem became less as time went on and Brembo started doing a better job of balancing the rotors before shipment. But that doesn't mean it still can't happen.
AFAIK, CCM rotors that are balanced have visible weights at the attaching bolts to the bell. At least the ones used on the Corvette are like that and those are the same rotors used by AM.
So, if the rotors are balanced as above, then it shouldn't matter who mounts new tires. OTOH, if the OPs wheels have been balanced to compensate, then the front rotors should have been marked by the AM dealer with the weight/location info needed in order to balance the tires/wheels (and therefore the info can be used to compensate for new tires/wheels).
So, check the rotor to bell mounting bolts for small weights, and if none show, the rotor bell itself for dealer added notations.

Flugplatz Michelins were fitted to wheels that were already marked and so I wasn't worried about them. They were going to be refurbished but then V8 morphed into a V8S so it wasn't an issue and also the issue according to AM is with the carbon disks rather than the wheels.
DB9VolanteDriver thanks for the pointers to check on, will have a look and see what weights or markings there are on the car.

If the CC rotors need balancing what happens when they wear due to use and become thinner / lighter? Wouldn't they then become unbalanced and progressively create vibration?
Or is the weight difference so small as to be negligible

The weight difference between new and worn is very small IIRC, and loss of weight should be fairly uniform. Might be a problem down the road, so the SB might need redoing at some point.Or is the weight difference so small as to be negligible

So having had a look all I can find is a small mark of what looks like blue paint on each hub, no weights and no notations.
Anyone with a V12S had a problem with having tyres fitted outside of the dealer network?
I will go with the standard P Zeros if I have to go with the dealers to avoid problems but do prefer the idea of the Pilot Sports.

You will have no problems fitting the Michelins there are quite a few V12V owners here who have them . Care is needed when removing the wheels so as not to chip the disc but thats it , and i have removed mine many times just to clean so i,m sure a competent tyre place will have no problems.
Quick look on google , these might be good.

I think you will find some dealers themselves, have tyre work done by outsiders.
I don't know which main dealer, but someone uses a tyre firm in Chesham.
I've used Blackboots in Chesham for tyres and geo before, no issues with wheel damage, would be happy to use them again. http://blackboots.co.uk/
Chiltern Aston use them I believe, as do Stratstones in Amersham I think.
