Looking at the great DB11 reviews it is increasingly obvious to me that Aston have produced a car that really takes the company up to the next level. It looks like a sublime machine. Like many I was initially not a fan of its looks (the shock of the new I guess) but as I see more of it I am starting to appreciate its beauty.

But.... I'm still shaking my head in disbelief at the interior. Look at the flowing lines of the DB9 below. It looks as if it was designed as a complete unit with harmonious lines that please the eye. Compare it to the new boy on the block. To my untrained eyes it has discordant lines with numerous angles that just seem to be cobbled together.

Can someone who knows what they are talking about in automotive design please put me right?l

I haven't seen them next to each other like that, and while I thought the original was getting long in the tooth and I've never been a fan of the newer knobs and fonts, it does look much better than the new one.

However...

The lack of cohesiveness is probably to be expected as it's taking some pretty disparate parts that were themselves designed with another look in mind.

It's not an interior that appeals to me personally, (unlike the exterior) primarily the main instrument binnacle and the side air vents could look so much better

It's not the best looking interior, it reminds me of some TVR interiors, but it's also not exactly best of breed tech wise - graphics etc already look a generation out of date, which isn't great on a newly launched car.

The previous generation is obviously dated, but it's pretty low tech so gets away with it to an extent, high tech flashy bits age much more quickly - wouldn't be too surprised to see it refreshed when the Vantage launches.

Saying that, I still wouldn't mind one :-)

Ah yes bogie, sorry, well spotted. Probably an unconscious Fredian Slip as I've got one of them things and I love it.

Never thought I'd read TVR and 'It's not the best looking interior' in the same sentence? Google 'tvr interior' and click on images and tell me they look st! Mad, yes indeed. Maybe not the best construction either - but blocensoredody marvelous!

DB11 outside looks modern (only time will tell if it's classic).

The interior however is just too busy and not very sleek / AM. If the screen folded back flat or away and the vents matched 'something' and the steering wheel was a little less of a 1970s take on the future then it may appeal to me more.

Making the interior do more is fine but with a more minimalist and stylish look as per any modern smart phone would enhance it.

Keep it simple. It will get better.

I wasn't implying TVR interiors were bad, they suit the batst crazyness of TVRs perfectly - my point was that the slightly bonkers "non-cohesive" look doesn't really go with "Aston".

I agree James, for me it's the angle of the instrument binnacle and the air vents that are out of sorts with the rest, plus the sat nav screen sticking up like that. However, most premium cars have that style of sat nav screen now, obviously something the accountants are pushing.

I do hope they bring out a version 2 in the not too distant future, or the Vantage replacement maybe could be that version 2.

Somehow I doubt it though.

Aston really need to put someone in charge of Font continuity. I counted at least 7 different typefaces across various buttons, switches, dials and LCD graphics.

It's not big and it's not clever. It's just messy.

Not to my taste either - all too confused and busy with no real sense of continuity. The stitched leather topper on the main binnacle looks like a bit of an apology and the angled air vents just don't look right for an AM interior. Fine in a Mercedes, but in an AM... it just looks like trying too hard to do something different for the sake of it it. I also still can't help but seeing a face in the centre console thanks to the contrasting (circular) adjustment knobs in the air vents.

Doors are pretty fussy too. That said I think I'll grow to like it.
Oh, and I wish they'd given the LCD screen case a bit more love!

I agree with you James, but I suppose we are not the average 2017 Aston Martin buyer.

I am very happy with the standard 2009 onwards interior, used until the Vanquish version became standard. I know that the buttons are difficult to see and reach on a manual car, but I forgive that, because everything looks coordinated, classy and certainly not exaggerated. Oh, and the speedometer and tachometer. A wonderful masterpiece by a watchmaker. Probably never see that again.

Here are the origins of the DB11 dashboard.
The committee of 'designers' forgot about integrating the display screen (as per S Class), so they had to just stick it on the dashboard afterwards. - smile

I prefer the older look. The new look is too fussy.

I prefer the DB11 to either of those Merc interiors!
