New car "deals" with dealers - Vanquish S
Discussion
I’m actually really struggling to find a dealer that will work with me on ordering a new Vanquish S. I’ve been very open and honest with dealers that because the car I want is £237k, a lot of money, I want to be sure I'm getting a good price. I also want a good PX value on my current Vanquish. Given my current Vanquish is only a few months old and a new one is £237k I would it think it fairly sensible to search around for a best deal. Yet when I mention this dealers are not very keen to actually provide me any pricing at all.
So far I’ve spoken with 3 dealers and only have pricing from 1 of them! 2 of the dealers will not provide a PX value until collection of the new car and the deposit is non-refundable meaning between now and 3-4 months before car collection I would be completely at their mercy and they could give me a ridiculously low PX value and nothing I could do about it. If this is the way all dealers work there is little incentive to order new and maybe I Should just wait for stock cars to become available in 6 to 12 months time?
Has anyone else encountered this? Am I being too honest saying I want to check other prices? How have others dealt with this situation?

Had similar situation with recent Land Rover purchases on FFRR and Evoque. Dealers generally won't agree a px price that the trade in may or may not be worth in X months down the line. I'm sure they will offer to give you "best price possible and hopefully it will be worth more than they originally offer and will be happy to pay you more for it" Yeah yeah yeah and pigs will fly. Not going to happen - Once you are tied in to the new car that's it they have you over a barrel. I actually got a deposit back off a LR dealer who tried to play the same game with me and I walked away from the deal - waited 6 months until more units available and then got the deal I was happy with (at a different dealer I might add). One option is agree a px now and surrender your current car but its probably not the best time of year for that - OR - play the waiting game and see how the market plays out. Once more cars are available it may come back to you a little - Or maybe not. Personally that's what I would do (and have done on previous "I need THAT car in my life" purchases) and stand my ground and be prepared to walk away from a deal if its taking the mickey - It normally works out in the end.
Thanks Lotto. I've not had this issue with BMW. My daily drive is BMW 750, fully loaded spec and took 5 months on order. Yet a PX value against my previous BMW was agreed at time of the deal (only caveat was around mileage, fair enough) and this was still £100k+ car so I don't see why other manufacturers can do the same?
I sympathize with the dilemma but there really is no other way - the potential price movement on a £100k sports car over a few months is significant, especially at the moment given the changes in the Aston line up - who knows what for instance, used DB11s will trade at in a few months time once more hit the market and how in turn, that may affect Vanquish prices
The only way unfortunately IMHO is to sell yours now and accept the few month gap without an Aston - I've done it before and it hurts, but I came to the conclusion there is no alternative
If by any chance a dealer is willing to give you a 'secure' px price now against your current car, for a trade in that doesn't take place until a few months later, surely they will give you a really low price to protect themselves ?

Well, for me anyway, that would be fine. The point of money is to make things easier. I'm willing to pay to not have to worry.Cheers,
Jeff.
Placed an order for a Gti 35 edition a few years ago on the promise ( verbally) of a good price for the trade in.
Got the phone call a few months later to say it was in stock , I went down to finalise the deal and the promised good price never materialised, the new car had already been registered in my wife's name , just told the salesman he was stuck with a pre registered car and I would only come back after I'd sold the trade in privately.
Two weeks later we completed the deal , I think much to his relief.
Next time it goes down in writing.
