Vantage ... And dog ?
Discussion
Been having a little clear out of cars ( Elise and 550) had Porsche's and Ferrari's but never had an Aston. Really fancy ticking that box.
Need to have something that is useable every day ( think the vantage will cope with that, have an Audi as well so it doesn't actually have to be used everyday but want the option to do so) but the dog comes everywhere with us, does anyone stick the dog in the back ?
Thanks

I would not like to have my dog in the boot space.
The entire boot area has glass above, and the large rear exhaust silencer beneath the boot, creates noticeable heat within the boot.
You may have already seen that the boot floor has two distinct levels, which is another problem for a dog.
Hmmm .. Very fair points, it would only be for local journeys. I need to have a proper look. He's a cocker spaniel so only small.
Actually hates large space, hates the Range Rover boot ( even with his crate)
I wouldn't want to be cruel, last thing on my mind !!
Maybe a db9 with a cage made for the back seats might be better
Thanks

A vantage with the rear shelf out has pretty much the largest boot of any modern Aston, except the Rapide. Big enough for a smaller dog. Ive seen people get push bikes in there with a wheel removed.
Do you think he would mind the noise from the exhaust ?
The noise wouldn't bother him, he was cool in an Elise and spends loads of time in a very loud tractorDo you think he would mind the noise from the exhaust ?

I will have to have a look at the boot, the rapide really doesn't appeal I'm afraid

Hi
We have a cavoodle (about same size as a Cocker spaniel) we have him set up on the parcel shelf and he loves it because he can see out
I ran a thick black nylon rope between the two aluminium struts at the rear of the cabin and we have a seatbelt fabric loop with a bulldog clip on it that is then clipped to his harness so he can't come forward past the seats and get in the way of driving. It allows him to move a little side to side and find a comfortable position on his bed sitting on the shelf
Will add a photo later

Many thanks, sounds interesting. Can he sit up at all between the parcel shelf and the glass of the boot ?We have a cavoodle (about same size as a Cocker spaniel) we have him set up on the parcel shelf and he loves it because he can see out

I have a Kurgo dog basket and a mini Dachshund:

The basket is designed to hang from a headrest, but you can tether the sides to the roll cage. The box fits snug on the parcel shelf against the front seats. The box itself has a tether for the dog to keep her safe when used with a harness.
Dog absolutely loves it as she is high enough to look out of the windows, or just curls up and sleeps in it. Also protects the car as she can't scratch anything/get hair on the carpets.

Great thread. I really miss taking the dogs out in the DB9, and never even looked at Vantages because I wrongly assumed they would be even more cramped in the back. I actually didn't even know they had a hatch
The packaging in the DB9 is woeful really for its size. There is miles of room behind the pedals whereby the drivers seat could have been moved forward a crucial few inches. And whatever keeps the passengers footwell short should have been relocated.
Even if the back seat area was lined out, our dogs are Scottish terriers so a bit stocky and heavy for threading through the narrow "V" left when tilting the seats forward. Plus the youngest is a bit daft and "scrabbly" yet to be trusted in amongst all that expensive leather...
Have you considered an DB9 Volante OP? With the roof lowered you can drop the dogs in! I stupidly let my missus talk me out of a Volante, which would have been a solution.

Yellow card for driving an aston in an aston t shirt though.
We have a springer spaniel, so bigger than a cocker and he has been in our Vantage on a few occasions. The shelf behind the seats is his favourite spot but he has been in the boot with parcel shelf removed before which he didn't like because of the noise and lack of ability to properly sit up (it was night so no beating sunlight) - he made his way into the cabin and settled on the back shelf in the end.
The dog pics are awesome
There's a TON of space in the boot with the divider removed. However, I wouldn't put a dog back there because it'd be very easy for it to hit its head on glass or metal (the trim piece covering the boot latch) while the car is moving.
As for me... I've got a pair of Great Danes so I don't think they'd fit too well regardless lol
