advice needed vanquish or stick with db9

hi there i could really do with some advice at the moment i have a 2013 db9 volante in grey looks really classy brilliant to drive [always in sport] but i always fancied a vanquish volante anyway one has come up for sale near me and if i really stretch myself i can just afford it so these are the points i need advice on

1 in white with carbon [will i get sick of the colour ,is it too chavy

2 is the car worth paying another 30k for is there a noticable difference

3 will i see a massive difference [dont go really fast ]

4 2013 model is there any issues with this year

any advice would be gratefully appreciated

Hi Neil,

I'll reply for you on this one - for context we have a similar DB9.2 Volante (2014) to yours and I've driven both early (6 speed) and later (8 speed) Vanquish Volantes - and we also have a later 2015 Vanquish coupe ( chosen over a Volante!).

Given that (IMHO) the main point of a Volante is more to cruise than thrash, the later DB9 is more than up to the task...as you say it is, it is a VERY elegant and classy way to travel - quite possibly more classy than the Vanquish (?) and do you need more than 500hp in a soft Top? Almost certainly not! I do think the later DB9 motor really suits the Volante - much better torque than the previous models. (E.g. DBS) - and is basically a de-tuned Vanquish.

The drives I've had in Vanquish V's have been a bit underwhelming - I don't feel that there was much more in the way of chassis rigidity or in the case of the 2013 6 speeders much more in the way of poke. You already have a very high spec car with ceramics, latest 3 stage damping higher torque motor etc etc. which is most of what the Vanquish gives over earlier cars such as DBS. I certainly could'nt make a case for a change to an early Vanquish - the REAL benefit of Vanquish is the 2015-on 8 speed box - game changer - and is what gives the Vanquish clear water over all the other Aston 2+2's.

Late Vanquish vs. Late DB9.2 coupe is a somewhat different comparison...

By all means drive the Vanquish but don't be blinded by the numbers!

Quite a bit of difference. But ultimately the later 8 speed would be far better. The handling and performance far superior and of course lighter, but if you don't drive hard/fast probably not relevant. I think it's about emotions as much as anything, having had both I prefer the more modern Vanquish.

I like the colours, I looked at this white when speccing my mine and it was a close call, only reason I went for Ceramic Grey was because of DBS I'd seen in that colour years ago!

Two points that always seem to be overlooked/not mentioned: bigger boot and more front leg room. These may or may not be important to you, but they do make for a better car, especially the front leg room. Getting out of the Vanquish after a 2-hour drive vs my 9 was a huge improvement for the old knees.

WRT 6 vs 8 speed, for me the difference is minor, especially when in sport mode. I will say that I didn't like the 8-speed when on the paddles....too much shifting as compared to the 6. I like the feel and sound of winding out the motor over a broader road speed range for a less frenetic pace. I guess that's why I like my 'garbage' SSM in my old Vanq Mk I...slow, methodical shifting required like a stick stirred manual.

Try both 6 and 8 first, before deciding. For me and the way I like to drive, the difference was of no practical significance. If you find that it's the same for you, you may be able to save a bundle.

I like the author of this post love both the AM DB9 Volante and Vanquish Volante and the replies have made it an easier choice for me of the Vanquish Volante so i will be saving up for one of these to add to my current collection of other cars.

I much prefer the beauty and lines of these two stunning cars over the much modern cars of the DBS, DB11 and Vantage as from every angle both the DB9 and Vanquish are gorgeous and cars i have always admired and wanted however when i first saw these cars the price range was well out of my league but now with age and introduction of the above mentioned newer cars the price is more achievable.

I will probably be looking at getting a Vanquish Volante 2014 onwards, is there anything i need to be aware of before buying please.

It’s a valid point of view, for sure, but if you can put down a sensible deposit, and you can get a fair HP deal which leaves you owning the car after 36 months (because I still argue that an AM is a good long term investment) and you reckon you can make th3 payments, is it not a good idea to have a go? Would you rather end your days regretting that you never owned the Aston you really wanted?

And the Vanquish is a VERY good car.
