Just got normal tyre noise, roads here in UK so crap after Spain. Was thinking of adding sound proofing in doors and rear 1/4s. Has anyone done this?

The first thing I'd do is change tyres.

If you haven't already, go for the latest Mitchelins. Also, you may want to check that your suspension brushes aren't worn or alignment out of kilter.

Otherwise, it's quite an easy job.. just buy some of the sound deadening foam sheets the audio people use.

We used to do it all the time in the old soundoff scene. Its an easy job if you're prepared to take a lot of trim panels off. A big bonus is the accessibility to virgin aluminium under the arches when you take the rear wheel arch liners out.

Once you've got all that bare ally on view, liberally cover it in Dynamat or SilentCoat and neoprene sheet. The Dynamat/SilentCoat stuff is super easy and satisfying to apply. Its a self-adhesive bitumen backed aluminium material you can cut, shape and bend to whatever area you want. The barrier/liner neoprene is only used inside, the bitumen stuff anywhere.

Bear in mind, it will add weight, but is well worth it.

Thanks for your replies, it's just been serviced at Aston dealer,, the tyres are only half worn hence going down the sound proofing route.

I had excessive tyre noise with a Mercedes-Benz.
Roads with a top surface of granite chippings are the worst, even louder than concrete roads.

Now tyres are sold showing noise levels, I chose a set with the lowest decibel number. Did wonder whether it might just be marketing, but went with the flow.

Original fitment tyres Pirelli P6000. Think the db was about 73.
Tyres purchased Dunlop Sportmax (something) with db 68.

The reduction in road noise was remarkable, so I was delighted.
The rate of wear appears to be more than double, but worth it.

Fitting sound proofing would be quite a job, and there might not be certainty of much improvement with tyre noise.
