2006 DB9Volante.
Sat nav not going up.
I hear whirring sound and that's it.
The sat nav comes up by hand very freely.
Advice please.

Sounds like the gears have gone (Common problem) and there is a kit available and instructions to fix.

In a nutshell, the plastic drive gear teeth eventually break/wear down and so you can hear the motor but not screen rotation.

Get in contact with AM or indie supplier of kit and see if you are happy to fix yourself.

Basically remove the sat nav cover, unplug sat nav and remove/replace gear wheel (Off the top of my head)

Took me half hour max and worked fine ever since.

Obviously, this is most common cause, could be something else, but best to try the cheap fix first.

This repair kit is available from Aston Martin Bits and they also supply all the necessary instructions - £20 all in smile
Although this is for the V8 I'm sure it will be the same for all pre-Garmin models.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago. I saw some instructions on a DIY fix, which I calculated would take me the best part of a day to do, so I gave it to a main dealer who charged me an hour but probably fixed in 20 mins. I've no idea if it's still working as I don't think I've ever used it since it's been fixed!

Hi all, well it’s not that difficult to do. annoyingly I discovered this in the process of replacing a cracked satnav cover. I foolishly followed some ones advise on here on how to remove the old cover. And bloody snapped the small wheel in the process. Should have gone with my gut feeling.
Anyway I’ve ordered the kit today £20. Ski slope is easy to remove and so is the satnav. Replacing the small wheel might be a little fiddly. It has recoil spring integral to it.
So do not listen to anyone if they say. Turn unit and ignition off and slightly lift the satnav cover. That’s not how you do it. Unit is turned on and screen up. Then unclip the two side retainers securing the screen to the cover. Then fold down the screen.
Use plastic tool to slide under one upper edge of the ski slope, up right hand into cover gap and one purposeful lift up. Job done. Ski slope off.
Four screws secure the satnav unit and unplug it.
I could have replaced the cover tomorrow in about 20 mins. But I now have to Waite for the bloody kit.
I could live without the crap satnav, however it needs repairing and working which would grieve me not being done.
