Emission System Service Required Fault Code P0133

Hello all. New to the forum so go easy here.

Me and my dad have used the NT510 kit here http://www.diagnostic-world.com/pages/Aston_Martin...

We have the Emission system service required and check engine light on the dashboard.

The diagnostic kit gave us the code P0133 fault code with the description '02 Sensor Circuit slow response (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

Would i be correct to assume that this is a fault O2 sensor?

We have worked on Porsche & BMW in the past, but Aston is a bit new to us, so just wanted to check with the people ITK about

A - if this is the correct diagnosis and it is a faulty O2 sensor that needs to be replaced
B - Is this a DIY guide, can it be done on our driveway, is there a guide
C - best place to buy this part. Do we need to go to Aston Martin, or will it be a Bosch part we need that we can pick up from Euro Car Parts?

It almost certainly has nothing wrong with it. Just search the forum and google. This error comes up all the time. Just clear it with an OBD II reader.

I have not yet tried to clear the code yet as i just wanted to get some advice on here first. Will clear the code tomorrow when i am with the car again to see how i get on.

I guess by your confidence and quick reply that you have seen this happen a few times and is a problem with the ECU of sorts?

I had it on my DB9 often and I get it occasionally on my V12V. Just search this forum and see how many hits you get.

Reset it, see if it comes back in a few thousand miles and it comes back with same error.

If it comes back every few months then it will need replacing. Sometimes its just an anomaly and never comes on again.

I replaced all the sensors on my old 2006 Vantage over 83k miles I had it.

You can buy them off ebay cheap enough, once you have the car up on axle stands and muck about a bit getting the old part off, they are easy to fit, just plug in.

There is an illustration on here if you search or in the workshop manual, as to which sensor is bank 1 sensor 1 i.e. which side of the car is bank 1 (cant remember)

P0133 & P0154 DTC codes are the two upstream O2 sensors, apparently the software settings in the Aston have a very narrow error width for this issue and thats why it is a frequent issue with V8 Vantage.
In my case once I started to get the Emission Service MIL I used a cheap OBD II reader to clear the DTC's, but it started to come on every couple of days.
I got my local garage to replace the two O2 sensors with OEM AM sensors and this cured the issue for 2 years, then I started to get the DTC again, so they were both replaced when my car was in for a new clutch in January.
The AM specialist I used got the O2 sensors for a cheaper price than the OEM AM ones and they mentioned that they coiled the wiring the opposite way of the screw fitting direction so that the wiring did not get twisted when fitted.

I had the same a couple of years ago, just after I'd filled up. I wondered if I'd got dodgy fuel, but just reset the error code when I got home. It's not returned since, so jobs a good 'un.

So i used the kit to erase the trouble code. Dissapeared. like a fart in the wind. Hopefully it won't come back on but ill take the advice and change the sensor if it comes back on.

I had exactly this on my first day with my car. I also bought an NT510, reset the error, and so far it's not come back. As described above it seems to be a "feature" of these cars.

I've had this too.

Some people say when you change driving habits this can flip the sensor too, but in reality, who knows!

Assuming OP has a V8. Vantage from the forum name? So V12 experiences probably not terribly relevant to the question.

Happened the first time yesterday on my 4.7 after about 2,000 miles and about 3 times on my old 4.3 over about 10,000miles.

The first time I was of course worried and got my big code reader out and did some research and questioning of selling dealer. Advice was to reset and see if it recurs - as given here. I now keep a cheap Bluetooth OBDII dongle in the boot and read and reset with Torque Lite on my (Android) phone. P0133 each time.


For me, I think it coincides with a cold weather quick run after several shortish runs and with the exhaust valve open (both cars are set for this to be switchable). Might just be imagining that, but perhaps not surprising if ECU software margins are tight that running valve open (i.e. non-factory spec.) could trigger it.

Small price to pay for that noise .

I get it very occasionally - in fact i had it for the first time in 6 months last week. Mine seems to do it after a fill up and if i get stuck for a prolonged period of driving at exactly the same speed and revs. Almost behaves the same way the TPMS does.

Never effects driving and clears itself after 6 or 8 ignition cycles.

Thanks for all the great info. I have found that I get Emissions error with certain types of gas. A good AM mechanic told me to add octane booster and it works.

How many octanes you had in the gas that triggered the error?
