Just noticed that the gas ram on the fuel filler cap for my Vantage Roadster is no longer working properly. Anybody replaced one of these before and got any tips etc.
Thanks

Did mine ages ago, can't remember any details but it was very easy indeed.

That's the one, the last comment refers to the gas strut. The spring will push the flap up but the gas strut finishes the opening by pushing the filler flap vertically.
I expect a lot of people do not realise it has failed as you can just pull the flap fully open.

Mine failed to open a few times, or it needed several presses before it did open, but since the dealer "adjusted it" (FOC) when it was in for its last service its been fine.

Mine went but I got it fixed under warranty. Apparently its very common but will be about £300 main dealer fix

I replaced the small gas strut on my Roadster filler flap a couple of years ago and it is easy to replace.
The newer gas strut part comes with an additional spring and from memory was circa £30 fro AM parts department.

Got fed up with fuel filler strut not working so did some digging and have replaced it with a strut from www.gasspringshop.co.uk which was much better quality (it would seem) than the original. I ordered a Gas Strut 4-12 stroke 30 force 70N and an M3.5 eye. I fitted the spring which I already had as a back up for the release and re used the ball coupling. Cost £32.70 and arrived in a couple of days. Easy to fit just be careful to correctly align flap with bodywork before tightening the bolts.
