DBS manual went a couple of years ago. Now looking for a change from my current FF.

Just wanted to see if anyone has experienced both the 6 Speed and 8 Speed? And how much better is the 8 speed? There's a roughly a 20-25k delta between the two and was looking to see if the extra is truly worth it.

Thanks

Left to shift on its own, the 8 is better. On the paddles, I prefer the 6, only because fewer shifts are required to cover the range and you get to run each gear over a wider span before having to shift. I had a 9 speed Evoque; gave up using the paddles...I was shifting all the time, no fun.

Both have their merits....
6 speed very good proven gearbox...my first vanq loved it , great for short drives etc....
8 speed...well...long journeys fantastic , more economical , but.....hesitates at low speeds in auto...like a turbo lag....been told it’s the way they are.....but saying that once you get going fantastic...
Been sorted on the S version as I understand it.....
If you are doing a lot of town driving...save a few quid get a 6....
A lot of motorway or euro trips....and if you are concerned about future values get the 8.....
But the 8 has also had a few tweaks.....improved exhaust note , suspension , and more hp.....

I had limited experience with the 6 speed, but around 6000 miles with 8 speed in vanq2 and vanqS. Performance is obviously better with the 8. I didn't actually find much difference around town if using paddles in either other than, as Tony says, exhaust note better in 8 speed. In Auto on long runs 8 speed more economical... like that matters! Drive both see what you think, if you can stretch for the extra makes sense to have a later version I'd thihnk

Thanks for the insights.....

I appreciate the 8 Speeder will be newer with the newer tweaks, just trying to decipher if they are worth an extra 20-25k

Surely the 6 Speeder cant devalue to below DBS levels?

Thank you...

Car will be used mainly for town driving, and occasional blasts
Not bothered about the exhaust, as will do Sports Cats on either anyway.
Petrol doesn't matter.
Can stretch to the 8, just need to justify the extra to myself

Based on that fact they're you're going to replace the cats anyway, use it mainly around town and the fuel isn't an issue (I'm sure the difference is so marginal anyway), then surely you're better off getting the best 6 cog and using some of the savings for something else ?

For the best 6 speeds the delta is not so large. You could hedge against depreciation concerns and consider one of the Centenary 6-speed models (a couple for sale at the moment).

But just be careful you don't buy a 6 and sit in it always wishing you had bought an 8 (even if for no other reason than you could).

Also for me the incremental little changes on the 8 made for a lot of improvement Drive both.

I drove both and went for the 6.
I’m not really a good enough driver to tell much of a difference and I couldn’t really justify the difference.
Even my ever unrealistic man maths couldn’t stretch that far.
Am really happy with it.

This.

Always drive my 6 on the paddles - the 'D' is too lazy and less noisy biggrin. Lovely full throttle upshifts on the way up and nice blips on the way down. 8 is technically better of course and better mpg etc.

Given up driving the M235i on the paddles as its just always changing gear time - they are so closely stacked as its an 8. Its never quite 'right' so I enjoy driving it far less than the Aston where I am always in absolutely the right gear at all times. Try the 8 though you may love it as not everyone wants to paddle shift.
