As the title reads, does this fit on a pre-facelift vantage v8?

Cheers!

Yeah, took some searching but found someone say this.
"The V12S back box won't fit a car with the transmission oil cooler in the diffuser."

I think Nick had looked into it last year for his V8V. The crux of it was the manual transmission has the oil cooler placed where it would foul on the V12S back box. The sportshift transmission doesn't have it in the same place, therefore looks like a possible goer (though I've not seen or heard one myself to date). For this reason, you see a fair few Vantages with secondary de-cats, but few with the V12S back box as it just doesn't fit in a manual car.

I'm not sure how it works with the V8, but for the V12, if I understand correctly, the cooler position/type changed from V12V to V12VS. So V12V can't take the V12S box, but V12VS, regardless of transmission, can take it. Certainly V12VS uses the same box on both manual & SS3 cars.

I'm only just discovering this as I'm selling my own V12VS box (having had the titanium one fitted to my car) and I've been discussing this issue with a potential purchaser

I'm surprised therefore if it's which transmission on a V8 that dictates whether the box fits, especially given that the manual derivative of any Vantage is based on the SS, but with a 3rd pedal & a stick. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I'm surprised - logic says that for V8V, it's which generation of car/transmission that dictates which backbox will fit, as that;s how it seems to work for V12V/S.

It would make more sense if the V12VS backbox can only fit later V8s regardless of transmission and not fit earlier ones, again regardless of transmission. But as I say, I'm not disagreeing with you ! :-)

The V12S rear silencer will fit only V8 Sport shift gearboxes as these gearboxes are air cooled so don’t use the rear oil cooler in the valance, V8 manuals are 6 speed and run oil coolers, V12 Vantage with 6 speed gearboxes are the same as the V8 in the cooling department and the V12 S manual as we know is the 7 speed which is the air cooled gearbox. Hope this helps.

I’d thought about jonby’s exhaust for my car, but as others have suggested, my understanding is that it won’t fit any manual V8 because of the oil cooler position.

That's really useful - cheers

So basically, any V8 shortshift will take the backbox, no V8 manual will take the backbox.

For V12, it's as I have recently discovered (you learn something new every day !), it will fit any V12VS but not fit any original V12V

Thanks again

I’m going to give this a go for my own reasons (as described in another post) - anyone else done this successfully ?
