Discussion
I have never owned an AM before and recently started looking at V12V AMR and DB 11 AMR. I have seen some mixed comments about AMR from Internet and sales in dealership. Is AMR just a perf upgrade pack or it is a completely different model? put in a different way, is it similar to "BMW 330 + M Performance Pack" or it is an "M3"?
I heared that V12V AMR and Rapide AMR are "true" AMR models and DB11 AMR is DB11 plus a upgrade pack, which is called AMR pack. That is the reson, supposedly, that V12V AMR residual value has been very stable while DB11 AMR follows the normal depreciation curve. Is this correct?
Thanks for your comments in advance.

I think the DB11 AMR replaced the v12 DB11 as the current model. It basically has a little more power and some suspension tweaks that they had already made in the V8 DB11. It cost more but I think that was a combination of a price rise (probably currency driven) and a I believe some of the extras on the original became standard - not sure the value of these. I would expect it to depreciate like a normal car. I suspect the model was changed when the New Bentley Continental came out with 30bhp more than the old DB11 and a slightly higher top speed so they felt they had to upgrade to match - these things matter to some buyers !
There was a more limited edition one launched at the same time but I think that was just a paint job and a Q interior. No idea how those will fair on the market second hand.

The Vantage V8 AMR is basically just a standard Vantage with some cosmetic changes (paint scheme, sill plaque).
The Vantage V12 AMR is like above but comes with the performance upgrade to hear 600bhp. Titanium exhaust and aero pack were optional extras.
You could take a V12S Vantage manual and add the performance pack, aero pack etc and make a mechanical replica of an AMR. Wouldn’t have the Union Jack badge or sill plaques (and halo paint schemes). But mechanically the same. I would expect a genuine AMR to trade at a small premium (badge snobbery)
The DB11 AMR is an evolution of the DB11. Like DB9.2. So it has an upgraded engine and suspension tweaks. But it’s not a limited edition. It’s just simple new DB11

AMR is to the new cars what Vantage was to the old.
Someone was explaining the history of the cars to new employees at the Company and spoke about the name Vantage being the name given to the more powerful version of a car (save the AM Vantage and The Vantage), and that this all went pear-shaped in 2005. Someone from the marketing team said we have AMR for that.
For a while the V12 DB11 and the DB11 AMR could be ordered at the same time, but the former was quietly dropped. Similar to the V12 Vanquish and Vanquish S. The DB7 and DB7 Vantage were also on the books at the same time, although it is debatable whether any i6 DB7s were built after the first DB7 Vantage.

Further complicated because the V12V AMR was a limited edition model (100 cars) which was oversubscribed.
The DB11 AMR is a current normal core model.
As your comments have revealed, a number of us here feel there has been too much confusion with the Aston Martin Racing brand. Some models have more power, whereas others just seem to have a few appearance changes. It will be interesting to see which path the new Vantage AMR follows. Someone has suggested, that the contract for Daimler engines might involve not increasing the power.
