When you fit equal length manifolds in place of the originals on a 4.3 V8V do you need to add some heat shielding. Never seen it mentioned anywhere but stumbled across this pic from a post in 2017 of what I believe are Bamford Rose exhausts. The offside (driver's side) manifold clearly has a large heat shield on it.

I can easily make some up for mine and get some mounting points welded on, but do I really need to do it?

It looks like the OE manifold has some form of outer 'skin' which must reduce surface temps and thus temps in the engine bay.

Cheers

OK so I've checked the OE manifolds and the drivers side one does indeed have a heat shield so I guess the replacement will need one too.

Strange this never seems to be mentioned / shown by the companies selling these manifolds.

That's my Vantage in the picture and my BR manifolds. They're great and I've certainly had no heat issues in the last 2 years.

Below is another picture I have of them in situ and whilst it doesn't show the whole thing it does show the heat shield between the manifold and a number of potentially heat sensitive items (starter motor, some electrical cabling and a pipe ? fuel). I have heard Mike from BR talk of some other tubular manifolds that don't have a heat shield causing a serious heat issue but I can't remember the details. I'm sure he could furnish you with more info if desired. Better safe than sorry I suspect.

Thanks for the pic. I figured it was protecting stuff like that. Defo needs some heat shield there!

I'm pretty handy with this sort of stuff so will some up with something. I've got some of this sitting in the garage, might see what I can knock up. https://www.zircotec.com/zircoflex-form/

The OEM RH manifold has the extra heat shield to protect the starter. Going to aftermarket like BR or VAP, I'd highly recommend getting them ceramic coated for heat protection before installing them.

I have had exhaust on previous cars Zircotec coated and it does make a big difference to engine bay temps. I'll be doing similar to these, but I think I'll also add a heat shield. Belt and braces!

Only thing to do is wrap the starter motor in some heat wrap as it is very close to the manifolds as a precaution.
