Car does not want to give me my key back
Discussion
So I picked up my first Aston the other day; a Vantage V12 manual. Madly in love except it doesn’t like giving me my key back. Every time I stop, I have to press it over and over for 3-4 mins before it finally gives in and spews the key out. This happens with both the crystal and plastic key. Just a tad embarrassing on the forecourt this evening being unable to turn the car off to fill up!
It was sold to me by Aston, so has the warranty but just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I’m open to suggestions I might well be a moron and not doing it right (I give it a long press and release).
Any thoughts welcome?

Ive got an issue with mine too - but not quite the same - sorry a bit of a hijack
about every third time it wont start & the car goes to start then just shuts down
not sure if I'm pushing it in too quick or too slow or too hard or what
anyone else had this happen and what am i doing wrong?

My plastic key some times gets stuck, to get it out I have to hit the dash next to the key.
I had similar with my AMR and a carbon back up key that I had for it. The dealership had kindly swapped out my plastic key for the carbon when I got the car but seldom used it. The car had to go back to the dealership for some fettling and was being collected by their truck at a laybye local to our house (the truck is to large to come up our lane). Used the carbon key and it got stuck - car left running in the laybye. The delivery driver didn’t know how to resolve so phoned the dealership and they said give the fascia a sharp hit just to the left of the key.Tried it a couple of times and nothing happened and then gave it a sharp crack with the flat of my palm and the key popped out. To say I was uncomfortable doing it was an understatement but all ok in the end. Needless to say the carbon key is no longer and back to using the plastic one.
If this is happening with your standard keys you may have a different issue that needs resolving but think this method will work in emergencies.

The previous owner of my car had this issue with their crystal key getting stuck. The cause was the plastic part of the key adjacent to the crystal part, it wasn't sitting flush and so it made that part of the key physically thicker than the crystal. He asked for a replacement key, and I don't know why but the AM dealer chose to replace the bezel on the ski slope instead, under warranty, which didn't resolve the problem.
As you've got it with both keys, it might be that the bezel is a bit narrow.

I came across a couple of similar problems to yours when testing my sterling silver ECU key. When it just shuts down, do you lose accessories as well? Any dents in your side rails on the ECU key, or any rattles?

I think they key is ok but will check - thanks
When it shuts down the Nav screen which has just started to rise then retracts back into the ski slope and all the lights go out on the dash
I thought I was pushing it in too fast or perhaps at the wrong angle but haven't been able to find a consistent reason

They think the barrel will need to be replaced , so in line with your thinking
I had this over the winter when the car was in storage. I tried to start the car in April and the key wouldn't come back out. It did eventually free up almost overnight after I drove it. When it went to Works they couldn't find anything wrong - but did also indicate it's a known issue. They put a bit of grease in the mechanism that worked a treat. Might just need lubing up.... hold the jokes please.
I think disappearing to the car with some lube will tip my wife over the edge but thanks anyway.
At the garage today:-
Trim re-adjusted which was preventing the key from releasing
Windows adjusted to prevent water ingress
One rear light replaced owing to water ingress
Glad I have the warranty

It’s quite a basic mechanism, the only time I’ve seen this was with my plastic key and that it wasn’t quite closed properly.
