Which OBD2 Reader?

Thinking about getting a OBD2 reader for my V8V. I have heard some of the cheaper ones don’t work on Astons Has anyone tried a Foxwell NT301?

i got a foxwell NT520 pre loaded with AM software from diagnosticworld.com , £189, used it on my 2005 db9 , i dont know how they got the AM software but it works!,

I also use the foxwell 520, does a lot but not like the AMDS .....
I also tried an Autel Tester, nothing worth for AM.

Take the Foxwell 520 for a small price, nothing else works better on a AM.

Paul, that’s an amazing bargain. Have you used it much? Any snags? I think I may well save myself a lot versus the Foxwell then!

I have one the same as the link Paul put up

Shows codes, allows them to be cleared, not sure what else it needs to do but
has been useful for me in sorting out a couple of things (emission service light for O2 sensors and for dying throttle body)

Hi David, I’ve only used it to check and clear error codes but it seems to work perfectly for this - for the low price it’s worth a go to see if it suits your needs, works on most vehicles so you can also use it to check any other cars you own :-)

There is a big difference between a cheap OBD2 Reader and the Foxwell.
With the cheap OBD Reader you can only read out the standard engine faults, harmonized on all vehicles worldwide with the OBD2 standard.

With the Foxwell you can read out a lot of AM codes in other electronic devices like transmission, ABS, instrument, heating etc.

There are two ports in a Vantage, one is for engine, the other is for anything else.

David, I have both. The generic one was next to useless in diagnosing the cause of the lights that came on on the dashboard. The Foxwell diagnosed it perfectly (ABS sensor). You're welcome to borrow mine if you need it, but if you are intending to buy, I would go for the Foxwell. Think I paid around £150 off eBay.
