Hi all...

I’ve just picked up my DB9 from Lancaster motors Sevenoaks after a service. Drove home and an hour later, went back to the car to take my missus out and it wouldn’t start!!
It’s got the following coming up on the dash...

1) pats system inoperative
2) gearbox fault
3) key not recognised
4) electrical service req
5) emissions control
6) traction control issue

These are all from memory so not exactly word for word what’s coming up.
They replaced the batteries in the key and I’m wondering about the immobiliser.
I’m currently charging the battery in the kitchen.

Where do I stand in getting this sorted. After £800 and 30 miles home, I’m gutted 😭

Thanks in advance
Steve

If you can get it started, take it straight back.
If it won't go,ring them, ask them to collect it.
Or ask them to collect even if it does start.

Literally gutted... never had this before. I did have an issue once with a low battery but charged it no problems. I simply don’t have time for the potential excuses I’m going to receive. “Yes sir... it has done 122000 miles”
Although it does have full Aston Martin service history

Don't worry too much, there's nothing wrong with your car, it's all good.

Just goto Halfords get a new battery for £130, connect your ctek trickle charger up overnight, and clear all the codes with an OBD reader,

All back to normal next day.

Whats happened, in my opinion is your battery is on the way out and whilst in service they have had the ignition on and lights on etc with the engine off for a while and the batteries gone flat. Your car is exhibiting all the classic errors for a flat battery.

Once an old battery has gone flat its knackered for good and make sure you press the battery cutout switch in when you connect it back up.

Thanks Paul.. but I’m a Halfords manager, it’s got a trickle charger and the battery is one year old and it’s a lifetime Yuasa.
It’s been on charge since. I think it’s an immobiliser issue. I’m going home tomorrow to get the second key. I’ll update the forum tomorrow

My thought too, but I have no experience with Astons.

Might still be a duff battery. Can you borrow one from work just to confirm ?

I suspect this too.

I’ve heard others have this problem when the car goes in for service, PPF etc and the mechanics leave the doors open for hours with the courtesy lights etc on draining the battery while they work on it

1) new battery, not the battery
2) tried the other key, not the key
3) pulled the parklock up in case it was the gearbox, not the gearbox
4) I’ve tried swapping the gearbox relay with an exact relay from the boot ( there’s a known non-start issue due to the relay in the boot), not the relay.
5) every fuse is intact
6) I’ve tried locking it, unlocking it.

Can anyone help? I think I’m going to get a load of resistance from Sevenoaks Aston Martin tomorrow but I drove it home and now it’s stuck!! 30 miles... I’m so annoyed.

I had the EXACT thing on my DB9 last month,

I brought the new battery, no difference, so I thought the new battery might not be 100% because of sitting on a shelf for a while so I plugged in my ctek charger and then cleared any codes with my OBD reader, switched off and waited overnight ............in the morning all the errors were all gone and it's working 100%

The new battery just needs a trickle overnight charge to get it to 100%

The DB9 seems to be very battery sensitive.

Hope this helps.

Call them. It's hard for a forum to diagnose if you've tried all of the usual stuff.

Why do you think you will get resistance from AM Sevenoaks? They are are not a Halfords service centre wink. Give them a ring you may be pleasantly surprised by their response.

TBH I wouldn't even waste time lifting the bonnet - I would just call them and tell them to come and sort it - not acceptable after a service unless of course they told you to change something and you have refused which has resulted in this - then you may get a load of explanations lol.

I had a very similar issue with mine once which turned out to be the battery cutout switch, which I must have bumped accidentally when connecting or disconnecting the trickle charger. The switch next to the charging port is a one-way disconnect. The reset switch is under the rear seat by the battery itself (no, I don't understand that either, nor do I understand why it only disconnects certain systems if the object is to eliminate battery drain). There is a hole in the cover panel, and the switch itself is small and yellow as I recall. Instant fix, in my case at least.
