Hi All,

Is there some special way to fill up an Aston V8 07 plate ?

I spent ages trying to fill the tank with petrol, would just click and click and click .

Tried holding it all different angles and different depths but to no avail . Even tried premium and normal . This was BP btw .

New car for me so maybe I’m doing wrong .

Thanks

I had an 06 plate 4.3 V8 Vantage. I found the same problem. Had to pull the pump nozzle half way out, very gently squeeze the trigger and get the petrol trickling in. Then, once you've got some in, squeeze harder.

I usually rotate the pump about 45 degrees to the right and just make sure it’s held in quite firmly.

Usually the weight of the hose needs to be supported or it pulls a a slight angle and draws air in it seems.

It was one of the things I have also noticed

So tried again today .

Had to hold the nozzle pretty much out of the neck and only on half flow .

Took 9 mins to fill her up . Oh well. It seems the air can’t escape fast enough so it bubbles up , clears and repeats .

Do cars differ in how they accept the incoming petrol nozzle then? I thought it was just a case of unlocking the cap, opening it and putting the nozzle in? I didn't think the car affects the petrol flow rate? Genuinely interested to know how it works/what happens.

Is there a breather tube near the filler cap? Maybe it's blocked.

Probably not much help but my previous Roadster was hard to fill as it kept clicking the pump but similar to above I found holding the pipe up slightly and not pulling the trigger fully was the answer.

Current car has no problems apart from the flap falls half shut due to the spring.

I take no special measures to fill by way of twisting the fuel nozzle or holding it at strange angles to the car.
I'd suggest your car is broken.

This only happens to me at certain stations. When it does happen I turn the pump handle 180degrees and it flows fine.

This is what I was thinking- it sounds more a problem with the pump/nozzle than the car?

Don't remember ever having a problem filling my '56 plate Vantage (except about a week after buying it when the fuel flap wouldn't open!).

I've had this problem with a couple of cars - I'm pretty sure it's the pump nozzle/filling neck combination and the pump not thinking it has a free flow available. Does it do it with all pumps? Could well be a blocked breather, hadn't thought of that. Or obstruction in the design. Not had it with the V8V. Undignified twisting of the fill nozzle and getting annoyed just seems the thing to do...

There is also a really annoying pump at my local Sainsburys that dribbles it in for about 2 mins before it decides it's ok to full-flow. And one I can put in but it catches somewhere in the filler opening and just won't come out!! This is only with one car, I have to say.

First world problems...

This often happens when the petrol station tank is running low. If it happens every time you fill up, then clearly not the petrol station.
