Has anyone tried to retrofit the front sensors to a car not originally equipped?
Got to replace front bumper on my 2007 car and have sourced a nice secondhand item that is fitted with the sensors. Given my frontal accident, I clearly need help and would like to retrofit the 4 front sensors. Wondered if wiring is already there etc? Any help/guidance much appreciated.
Thanks, David.

If front parking sensors were a 2007 option then there is a high chance of the wiring being in place, with the car just needing an update so it knows it has front sensors. You may also require a control unit and or speaker.

May well be worth a call to James at Aston Installations as they probably have experience of retrofitting them.

I still have the front wiring available as long as yours has the connector.

  • The link is for the wiring for the V8 S with the facelift style bumper which has smaller parking sensors.

Hi lucas1988, thanks for your response, do you know exactly where the connector should be so I can see if I have one? Thanks, David

As far as I can remember, it is just behind the front black bar to the left hand side. If you can wait until tomorrow I can try to be a bit more precise and provide pictures.

No hurry, just exploring if this can be done at the same time as replacing my damaged front bumper, which will take a while. The replacement bumper has the 2 outside sensors already in place so trying to ascertain feasibility of 1/ getting original parts and 2/ making them fit.

I think I might have noticed a connection David, between this post and another of your recent posts.

So, I am wondering, if I can get the bumper loom and the inner sensors but find I don’t have the wiring loom plug whether I can get them to work with an aftermarket set up?
Anyone know if all these parking sensors are basically the same operation?

Having done some digging, I don’t think front parking sensors were available until 09MY, so I doubt there will be the wiring in place.

Yes, yellow_tang, I suspect you are right. I have wiring diagrams for both with and without and still think it may be possible to retrofit if I can pull together all the necessary parts. Presently looking for the inner ( behind lower grill ) sensors.

What about a front parking camera?
You can already get kits to retrofit a rear camera which outputs to the satnav screen, so it should just be a case of getting one of those but sticking the camera behind the front grill? If the wiring isn't in place for parking sensors that might be a more viable solution.

I may, ultimately, end up having to go to front mounted camera ( I know Aston installation do one ) but since the bumper I am fitting already has the 2 outer sensors fitted, I thought I would investigate the retrofit route first. Feasibility and cost could finally dictate the direction I take.
