I'm in the process of replacing the muffler and catalytic converters. Does anyone have advice on if it is worth changing the center pipe section or not?

Does anyone know the difference between the V12 and V8 center section. I assume the dimensions are the same and I know the rear pipes used on the V12 and V8 are identical.

think it depends on whether u have a 4.3L or a 4.7L

might help if you let the forum know that

4.7L have secondary cats but 4.3L don't

It is an earlier 4.7 so without thought the secondary cats.

I suppose the answer depends on what you are trying to achieve by changing any of your exhaust.

If you're after more power then the most important bits to change are the manifolds and cats. Anything rear of these has little effect on power/torque.

Why are you changing the back box? Personally, I would only get rid of the valved back box if I were seriously trying to shed weight whilst race/track preparing the car. The reason I say this is because whilst I have full independent control over the valves I do use them regularly. My car is quite loud with valves open because of its combination of BR manifolds, 200 cell cats and the V8S back box. Everyone that follows me on a drive comments on how good it sounds. However, cruising on a motorway it can be a little intrusive with valves open so I just close them if I'm chatting or have the stereo on and I would not want not to be able to do this. Also, the character of the sound of the V8S back box is excellent so no reason to change. The character of the sound of my old 2009MY 4.7 was nowhere near as good as the V8S so I can understand why you might want to change the box but for me valves are a good option.

The centre section might look like just two big pipes but has the potential to radically affect the sound. Version 1 of my BR exhaust had an X-pipe in the centre section which changed the character of the sound a lot in a way that didn't suit me (less burble low down and more scream high up). Version 2 returned to a tiny H-pipe (which I think is the OEM setup) with additional muffling just behind the cats to control the volume. This made it sound just as I wanted and is how it remains to this day. Happy to demo if you're local.

Sorry, perhaps I should have been clearer with what i’m looking for.

I prefer the deep low end burble. The back box I’m using will be the N420 one so still with the valves and i’m changing the manifolds too.

Who supplied your H-pipe setup?

Bamford Rose supplied and fitted everything but, as I said, I think the H-pipe is OEM (at least on my Vantage S). Exhaust note is all about personal preference so I would try to listen to as many different options as possible before committing if you're not happy with how yours sounds.

Hi pete, do you still have the old center section, I was in the process of making a x pipe center section but also unsure of whether id like the sound outcome. If you still have it would you be interested in selling it?
I don't have it but Mike at Bamford Rose may still so I'd give him a call if interested.

Thank you for the advice Pete. I think for now I will wait until the rest of the exhaust is installed and then try to find someone with the x-pipe design to listen.

I can confirm the H-Pipe is also OEM on my N420.

This is supposed to be stock except for X pipe/cat delete.
