Haven't used the car in a few weeks and didn't put the trickle charger on.

Car is completely dead, annoying as normally i don't lock it when it's just in the garage, but it seems i did this time.

Anyway, being an idiot the manual is in the glove box and the charger point is in the boot, neither of which i can open ...

I have a powerful CTEK that should be able to bring the battery back, but what's the process to get the boot open, press that switch behind the drivers seat, etc, jumping isn't really an option as it is in the garage.

Dont you have a cig lighter adapter for the CTEK - they usually come with one? you can then plug it in up front for a few hours.

Didn't know you could charge via that too ... is it not just the same connector?

Obviously use the manual key to gain access to the car.
Think the charger connection in the engine compartment needs crocodile clips.
It is apparently possible to get the tailgate open from inside the car. You might have to be a contortionist.

some cars had a dedicated charge specific port in boot. if yours is just the 12vdc cig lighter type then yes you can get some charge in by connecting up front too....just keep it below 10amp - trickle charge versus jump start

I had exactly the same issue this morning. Went into garage to find hazard lights flashing, but rest of the electrics completely dead. My battery conditioner is in the boot, but I can't get to it from inside the car as the parcel shelf is attached and blocking any access. I tried connecting my regular battery charger to the battery directly, but it keeps on tripping out after a few seconds. I guess only solution is to disconnect the battery terminals and connect the regular charger overnight in the hope that I can get enough charge in so that I can re-connect and then open the boot with the electronic switch tomorrow.

Ultimately, I expect a new battery will be in order but as it's going to be laid up in the garage over the winter anyway, there's no huge rush as I assume the battery conditioner will be able to keep the existing battery going at a basic level?

You can just get crocodile clip to cigarette lighter adapter from Halfords and then charge using the socket in the cabin. No need to mess around with the battery if you have time to charge longer

Or pop the bonnet open and connect the crocodile clips to the marked +ve terminal and a grounding point (engine) for the -ve

I only need enough power to open the boot and then will leave it on trickle charge, will try via the one in the cabin.

People on here have managed to detach the rear parcel shelf, then release the tailgate latch from inside the car, but fortunately I have never needed to try that myself.

I’m given to understand a small child can be useful in these circumstances biggrin
