Hello,

Do you guys recommend anyone for alloy and tyre insurance? The dealer quote seems very high. Any recommendations for alternatives for a recent purchase of a DBS.

Thanks

Tim

Congratulations Tim, on your purchase of a DBS.
A beautiful landmark model.

Please post a photo. We love to see new acquisitions.

I think many on here would agree with me, that if you are a careful driver, then self insurance is usually the cheapest way. Dealers will try to sell every insurance they can dream up. Commission puts 'food on the table'.

I once bought a £17 toaster, and the shop told me I should have insurance. Presumably if it broke down, they assumed I would not be able to afford another one! - wink

Enjoy your new Aston Martin.

The small print normally excludes so many items that this type of insurance isn't worth it - just be ultra careful with kerbs etc.
Stunning car BTW smile

Car looks stunning in that colour - congrats.
As others have inferred , even claiming can be a pita so wouldn't bother.

Personally I would. Never used it with Aston Martin (although had it on one of my vantages) but have used it several times on the Porsche and having only paid £400 for 3 years, one bump paid for itself.

Out of interest what "one bump" would have cost more than £400 as that's more than the cost of a tyre or a wheel refurb?

The only thing I can think of is a buckled wheel requiring a replacement which I suffered earlier this year. Would this type of insurance cover that? Personally, I still won't take it out but just interested.

Rule of thumb is if you haven't dinged a wheel in the last 3 years then you are probably a careful driver and should then self insure.

If you ding your wheels regularly then you should have gone to specsavers :-)

Negotiate hard with the dealer. They have sales targets for these so will often discount heavily just to get the numbers up

I had not kerbed a wheel in the last 5 years of supercar ownership. Now slightly clipped twice within the last three months on my Vanquish, not serious but still going to cost over £300 to put them right. To say I was gutted, well, I couldn't speak for an hour after I had done it. The car is wider than I was used to and was watching my mate in front going through a french transponder toll booth. Paying too much attention to why he couldn't get through and drifted slightly to the left. Stable door and all that, but wish I had got wheel insurance. :-(

How much are wheel insurance premiums ?

As you have not paid the insurance premiums for 5 years, would that money saved be more than enough to pay for your repairs now ? Hopefully you might be up on the deal.

The way insurance companies operate these days, make one claim and up goes your next premium. It used to work on the principle of the many paid for the unfortunate few.

If you do it regularly then it might be worth it - I did it once in 3 years and it was a £50 fix from a great chap on the drive. I have however just grazed a Macan wheel though and its 21" diamond cuts - bloody impatience stuffing through mad. So if you add diamond cut to the mix and as they are costlier to fix (think lathe...) then could be worth it at a lower premium?
