The answer Pete, is shown below. Not placed your order yet ? _ wink

Seriously though, my guess is the Bristol dealership are now following the lead from AM Cambridge (special editions). Do you remember, the Cambridge DP moved to AML Gaydon ?

Hope they include a proper 'droop snoot'. Need more than just red and white paint features.

Cambridge set a very high bar if you are creating special editions like this. It will be interesting to see more on the 26th.

[quote=V8V Pete]I don't get it. What actually is the link between Aston Martins and aeroplanes? Messerschmitt[quote=V8V Pete]

Aston Martin has a long and proud association with aviation and the Royal Air Force. Its three manufacturing locations are sited on the former RAF Stations at Gaydon, Wellesbourne and St Athan. Active runways continue to operate at Wellesbourne and St Athan and indeed the new DBX production facility in St Athan has been built inside former RAF hangers. Aston Martin has twice turned its factory over to build aircraft components, during WW1 the factory machinery was used by the Sopwith Aviation Company. In WW2 Aston Martin made parts for many famous British aircraft, including the Spitfire and Mosquito.

We have strong connections in our people as well as the company locations & activities. Former Chairman of Aston Martin, Victor Gauntlett, qualified as a pilot while serving in the RAF. Mr Gauntlett owned a number of aircraft through his life, including a Supermarine Spitfire Mk1a & liked it so much he had a fibreglass scale model of his Spitfire mounted on a pole outside Newport Pagnell complete with working navigation lights. That model now resides in the garden of a well known AM collector.

Mr Gauntlett was a long-standing council member of The Air League, which promotes all aspects of British aviation. He was a trustee of the RAF Museum, the Maritime Air Trust and the Museum of Army Flying. He was appointed Honorary Air Commodore of No 4624 Squadron of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, based at RAF Brize Norton.

The current CEO at Aston Martin Lagonda, Dr Andy Palmer, shares this passion for aviation. In 2017 Dr Palmer was commissioned as an Honorary Group Captain in 601 Squadron, Royal Air Force and continues to work with the RAF in this role. In 2016 Aston Martin made the decision to adopt the RAF Benevolent Fund as its official charity and our links with the RAF have grown ever stronger since that point. In 2017 the 10th Vanquish S Red Arrows 'Red 10' was donated to the RAF Benevolent Fund and raffled off, raising over £1.46m to help serving and retired RAF personnel & their families.

This heritage and strong connection to the RAF has lead Aston Martin to bring its aviation projects together under Aston Martin Wings, an exciting program which will see Q by Aston Martin deliver further limited edition models linked to aviation over the coming years.

Each of these programs will be built in very limited numbers and we have carefully built in a support for charities in each one. In future we plan to repeat the success of the Red 10 program.

I've attached a newspaper article which outlines more about the parts AM made during WW2, it also details how the factory was targeted and bombed, fortunately none of the employees were hurt.

I hope this comprehensively answers your question, aside from the genuine connections aeroplanes are fast and cool. What’s not to like?

Confirm I have been involved in every AM Wings project. They will carry a similar level of attention to detail. Take a look at the negativity in the opening page of the DBS 59 thread vs. the quality product and experience we delivered. I’m disappointed that this thread kicked off in a similar tone, but looking forward to Tuesday for the big reveal.

Thanks for educating me Simon. I actually really liked the Spitfire Vantages. I'd never consider buying one but I liked it and as long as you can find people that do want them then job done. Still don't really see how there is any significant connection with Concorde but again, as long as you can find people who do then job done.

Now you've made me aware of the RAF connection I'm guessing the chance of a Messerschmitt New Vantage is pretty slim then biggrin

Tenuous I know but quote "Dick Lovett is the official Aston Martin dealer of Bristol, and the Aerospace Bristol museum contains the last Concorde to ever fly"
Mind you I don't understand the need for the paint scheme and 59 logos on some of the new Vantages - apart from being an AM what connection has the new car got with the 1959 victories ????? confused
Any excuse for a few bits of paint and a hike in price or am I being cynical ???

But if Mercedes did one....

Love the spitfires, can see myself buying one once I’ve scratched a few itches.

What I can also honestly say was that the dbs59 handover experience was the most incredibly amazing unforgettable experience and one I doubt I could better.

You have jogged my memory Tim. I have 'got the connection'

It is not just that the last flying Concorde is now in Bristol.
Bristol played a significant part in building the Concordes. One of the two final assembly lines was in Bristol at Filton, which is not very far away from the new Dick Lovett Aston Martin premises.

iirc the last Concorde flight passed over the Clifton Suspension Bridge in salute to its birthplace.

She did. Alpha Foxtrot - the first for the four I have very fortunately to have flown in.

A visit to Filton is well worth it by the way.

I dunno...
The Daimler-Benz DB 605 aircraft engine, built during World War II, was used from 1942 to 1945 in the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter, and the Bf 110 and Me 210C heavy fighters.

Interesting to compare this thread to that of the Rolls Royce 'Eagle' cars.
