Clutch slipping after 20,000 miles - anyone else had this problem around then? - it seems early to me. I have a timeless warranty still, and am waiting for the car to be inspected, but my local Aston dealer says clutches often will NOT be covered by the warranty. Just curious of others experiences.

A well known forum member wore out his V12VR clutch after 19,000 miles so they have been known to wear that quickly but certainly not typical: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=15...S1-NOS said:
Clutch wear really depends on how it’s been driven. If it’s been tracked or driven hard then of course it can wear at 20k (or far less). 30-35k miles seems to be the norm.
Yes, clutch wear depends on how it's been driven but being driven hard or tracked won't necessarily wear the clutch. Being driven in lots of stop/start traffic, reversed unsympathetically uphill or just driven badly will wear the clutch prematurely though. This video clip of my launch at Blyton Park shows a car being tracked and driven hard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Acs4sjlmvk However, there is very little clutch slip involved in this start or the subsequent gear changes all around the track as they were all perfectly rev-matched; obviously
Yes, I risk other components of the clutch doing this (springs etc.) but I'm a child, it's fun and I love it
thanks for the responses all, I've driven manuals all my car life (20 years) and never had any history of burning them out - with either hard driving or not. And I would say the 4,000 miles i've put on this car were relatively longer distance/open road drives. Previous owner I believe was very careful. So maybe the first owner... will update in the next couple of weeks when Aston have given me their initial verdict.
its one of the last ones unfortunately, 2013 year. Already checked for a recall but there wasn't one for this car. My Local dealer says they will do a quick simple check to see if there's an oil leak causing it (which would therefore be a warranty job)... he says that's a problem that sometimes occurs. Going in weds for it.

From what I amassed from forums, the manual actually is worse when it comes to clutches. I remember someone saying he needed a new clutch in 4000 miles.Mine is V8 SS and I smelled the clutch burn a few times especially when reversing up a hill and when changing gear at 5 - 6 k rpm
What kills the clutch are usually steep inclines when pulling out especially in reverse, stop start traffic, resting your left foot on the pedal. For sportshift, both D and comfort mode seem to reduce the life as well.
Spare 3-4 k or spend a bit more for an improved aftermarket light weight flywheel

Greathey, you are talking about the V8 which is completely different to the V12V clutch, the V8 is well known for eating clutches. Going back to the other point, mine chirps on take off some times, could it be replaced under warranty?Mine is V8 SS and I smelled the clutch burn a few times especially when reversing up a hill and when changing gear at 5 - 6 k rpm
