Interesting. His track record is in building brands and companies rather than asset-stripping and selling them. He's also a car enthusiast. I can't see the bad in this, personally.

The market would appear to like it, I wondered why there was a 10% jump in the share price earlier. scratchchin

He's possibly just seeing it as an opportunistic way of trading up to a higher level F1 team.

Wouldn't want to see that to the detriment of Le Mans hypercar and continued GTE/GT3 & GT4 sportscar racing.

Does he rebrand his current team as Aston Martin or sell that and continue to collaborate with Red Bull?

Would love to see Aston bought by someone who would rebuild the brand where it should be. Cleaning house would be a nice, starting at the top. . But this guy is only worth 2 billion? All, I see is another disaster car company run on a shoe string. Prolonging the inevitable.

Is the Italian consortium selling?

Of course, as most of us will already know, in this case any bidder first needs the agreement of the existing main shareholders. Without that, a bid is not going to work, because fewer than half of the total shares are at present freely traded.

Another aspect is the agreement with Daimler for engines and electronics. It is thought that there must be a change of ownership clause, which could bring that contract to an end.

Strict Stock Exchange rules are involved too. I presume (Rob will know the answer to this) that an agreement for a majority owner to sell is allowed, before a formal bid has to be announced to the Stock Exchange.

Would have thought that a change of ownership clause for Daimler should only really kick in for a trade buyer as otherwise the private equity owners (who are not normally in it for the long term) would be held to ransom.

A boosted price and a partial sale would produce returns now and also spread the risk and increase resources for a possible future cash call.

Investindustrial's stake is 32.8% (worth £444m), if Stroll bought that it would give him a majority but not controlling vote in AML.
Stroll would need (some of) the Kuwaiti's stake too

Spot on Jon. But I would imagine given the share price move that the stock exchange may put pressure on Stroll to make a comment sooner rather than later

I imagine Daimler wouldn’t care who owned Aston unless there was a conflict of interest ie it was bought by another car company
