I notice the last of the DB9s, the GT versions, are now at the same prices as the very first Vanquish 2s - around 75-80k.

Can any owners that's sampled both share insight into which is better? I had a DB9 GT briefly, and it felt a little bit soft and floaty compared to a DBS I'd owned previously.

BHP between GT and Vanq is near identical, weight may differ slightly. I imagine the Vanq has better handling set up, though could be wrong?

Is rear seat space identical in both (I have two children both under 5 yo which may fit)?

Thanks for any insights!

Don’t have any experience with the GT, but why would you not choose the top of the range Vanquish for the same price? It has more front leg room than the DB and it makes for easier ingress/egress. If you don’t use up all of the extra front leg room, then it means commensurately more for the rear. Since I use all available seat travel, the rear space looks the same as the DB I had...none.

I have read the ‘more legroom in the vanquish compared to the 9.2’ before but cannot find any evidence of it. Having been in both cars I havent noticed any. What is the actual legroom difference?

Just back to the OP. I was told by AM that the GT was softened up a little compared to the 9.2 before the GT version. I run a 9.2 (not GT but with the GT power upgrade) and it is firm, back to back with an early vanquish I couldn’t tell much difference. The kerb weight difference is approx 40kgs.

I've had both a Virage (which became the new DB9, albeit not the GT) and the Vanquish. The Vanquish def feels more agile and makes a proper noise. It also has a much more capacious boot if that is of any relevance!

That said, the DB9GT Volantes look great value too, and a great looking car in that guise.

doesn’t Vanquish 2 come with 8 speed gearbox? That alone would sway it for me

SFO, the Vanquish 2 used the 6-speed at first -- the 8 speed came with the MY2015.

The Vanquish is the sportier drive, but I still prefer the looks of the DB9, interior and exterior.

Thank you for the replies.

I did notice the Vanquish has more room up front, which, as suggested, should equal a tiny bit more room in the back like for like v DB9.

This is 'interior man-maths' at work and I like it.

I'm not fussed about the 6 Vs 8 speed gearbox. I even liked the gearbox in the old vanquish.

I'll try and fold my kids into the back of a Vanquish at my friendly local dealer.

I am fully aware this is a 6 year old post but have to give it a try. You're probably the only person I'll be able to find who owned both of these cars.

I own a 2012 Virage and I'm contemplating an upgrade to the 2017/18 Vanquish S.

Being approximately 6'6 - I use up ALL the space in my Virage - with the seat fully back and fully bottomed out it's a really snug fit. I have to extend the steering wheel all the way out and to the top position for knee space, and my hair still (albeit barely) brushes the alcantara roof lining.

I've got used to it by now so it's not the only reason I'm considering this move, but the interior space would certainly be a very welcome cherry on top.

So the question is - how noticeable is actually the interior space difference between these two cars? Is it a significant difference? I unfortunately don't have one nearby to sit in it. I'll definitely try to find one before I actually list the Virage for sale, but my curiosity can not wait until then. smile

Very noticeable. Easier to get in and out vs the DB9/DBS/Virage, which are all the same regarding legroom.

From Grant Neal's Definitive Guide:
Compared with the DBS, legroom +37mm, knee room +50mm, shoulder room +25mm, elbow room +87mm, storage space +140%.

If you read the whole section you'll see that the Vanquish 2 is really a completely different car from a DB9.2.
