TPMS and shifting weelset
Discussion
My car has the classical DBS 10 double 20 spoke wheels from factory. I recently also bought the optional forged diamond turned wheels. I hope someone knows and can answer of what I don’t know regarding the tpms. I have the tire smart system that was the solution up to 2010 year model. Not only are the quite expensive but my main concern is regarding the connections. For my new wheels I will also have to buy the tyre sensors.
If I change wheelset, will the tire smart system recognize the tyre sensors or do I have to have the car at a Aston Martin dealer for programming? And if I want to shift back will I have to do it all again?
The classical ones

And the Diamond turned ones

The timing of your question is fortuitous.
There has been a recent topic about this subject and a much cheaper way was found.
It was planned to add the summary of the topic to the FAQs.
I think you should be able to buy a new set of wheel sensors (not from AM) for your new wheels.
Then program yourself, as explained in the topic.
Presumably, both sets of wheels should then operate with the system.

I would think with 2 sets of wheels you will need to establish the code of each wheel either by successfully reading it with an Autel tool, (which I failed to make work) in which case you can just Copy the sensor data into the new Autel one, or getting a tyre centre to remove the tyre so you can read it and then manually re-code the new Autel sensor as described in the thread. That would then replicate the old wheel and you should be able to swap them round with no other issues. More coloured rings for the valve stem?
The helpful guys at Autel suggest that the Smartire sensors will trigger (ie transit their data) when the tyre is deflating and passing through the 18 psi barrier! So you need to be deflating the tyre to read the sensor's data. An assistant (and compressor to reflate) is handy at this point. Would be interested to see if others succeed in reading the existing sensors where I failed...
