Hi all,

I removed one of the bonnet vents today to clean up some badly applied polish, and this is what I saw underneath. I then checked the other three vents and all are the same. Does this look correct ? Looks like the paint has completely peeled away from the brace struts of the bonnet. I'd have thought these should be painted the same as the underneath of the bonnet (last pic) ?

I don't think it should look like this, but has anyone else removed the vents and taken a look at theirs ?

Does not look like they were sprayed and just got the spray drift on them.
Personally I would rub down a spray matt black so they are not so visible.

Car is still under three years old, so if it's not right then Mr Warranty can sort it. Just curious to know if anyone else has seen the same ?

I don't think they are visible with the vents in so would imagine they aren't painted ( are they plastic ? ) .

They’re the cross struts that give the bonnet it’s strength.

You can actually see them through the bonnet vents, and now I can’t unsee it.

They fact that whatever it was painted with has all flaked off, would to say it’s needs fixing. I’m don’t see how they wouldn’t have painted those braces the same as the rest of the bonnet.

Acid rain water accumulating in the brace and then being heated by the engine to form a nice paint stripper.

Here is a picture of a V12 bonnet supplied with a new V12S. The customer upgraded to a GT12 bonnet and the factory supplied the original bonnet with the car.

@Manwhoneverwas - Thanks for that pic. So whilst it doesn't look like the struts are all shiny and lacquered like the paint finish, it also looks like they shouldn't be all flaked and knackered either. I've got no issue with it not being lacquered, I don't want it to look all tatty either.

I'll have a chat with Works when I'm there in a couple of weeks.

WTF! yikes

Of course they shouldn´t look flaked. What a question. Looking at that new bonnet it seems those struts are not fully painted, but only primed/coated or whatever. Not good.

My guess: Standing water from washing the car - could that be possible?

Good luck with the warranty claim!

I would mask off around them well clean them well with water and a scuffing pad. Dry them, re mask the hood, tape up the openings from underneath so only the braces are exposed and paint the high temperature primer and satin black paint.

As it's under 3 years old, I won't be doing anything........but agreed, if I was doing the work then I'd pretty much do as you said.

I didn’t realize it was under warranty.

I took a look at mine earlier too. Didn’t remove the louvres, but when looking from above at a certain angle, the bracing struts can be seen, and they look the same as yours Big Ry! Never really noticed it before, and now I can’t unsee it either! I guess it could be related to the vast amount of heat that seeps out through there, but it does indeed look rather scruffy, and probably is not as it should be. Be interesting to hear of any other V12 owners experience regarding this issue.

Best Regards

You can definitely tell the paint has been burnt off due to the high heat. If the dealer paints them over under warranty, they will just burn off again. High temperature paint is the only thing that will stay.
