Hi all

I’ve long lusted over the AM brand and an now seriously thinking of buying a pre owned Vantage 2018/19 model. I had a test drive today and loved it. My budget is £90k.

I would appreciate any advice on what I might expect get spec and year wise. Are there colours to avoid, and must haves..

Any additional tip or pitfalls to watch out for.

Hi

This is a good place to start!

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Off the top of my head...
Armrest
Glass switches
Black gloss or CF interior inlay
Dark jewellery pack
Touch pad
Premium Audio
Comfort pack
Sports plus pack
Tech pack
Exterior black pack
Quad exhaust
Gloss black or CF body pack
Black or silver grill
AM Tracker
DB10/11 or forge alloys

Fairly sure you can see more about the packs in the electronic brochure but I think most or all of those hits the spot.. Early cars probably look at the shut lines. Oh and haggle in a brolley with the Velcro fixings. Love mine. Class.

As wildcards, for that budget there's also an option of a V12VS: https://preowned.astonmartin.com/preowned-cars/137...
Or a V8 AMR (manual, one of 200): https://preowned.astonmartin.com/preowned-cars/137...

Admittedly I'm biased (recently bought a V12VS instead of the newer model) but I think the earlier ones have more Aston-ness about them and may age better/depreciate less.

Lots of new shape Vantage around for £90k.

Get the latest tech and V8 masterpiece. Older Astons are for the older people 😂👍

The new Vantage is quicker, more refined, better tech and is the future......

Hi Budweiser

For your budget there is an awful lot of choice. Most of the newer cars have depreciated quite dramatically and you should have a very good list to choose from at your price point. A search on PH, Autotrader or AM Timeless will offer plenty of low miles, almost new cars. However, re the tech, as far as I know, the new Vantage does not use the latest Mercedes infotainment system, so no Apple Car Play. MB seem to be holding back the latest version for now. It is however, more up to date than the older cars. But I would not use that as a reason to rule out an older V12 or perhaps a very late V8 AMR. Best thing to do is drive all of them and decide. The newer car is easier to live with day to day (apart from perhaps the extra width). The ride is sublime and it’s very quick too. Good luck with your search. It’s a nice problem to have. Please check back in here when you have decided.

Best Regards

I am pleased that you are enjoying your new Vantage.

When I like my cars, they tend to become 'keepers'. I have owned my Vantage now for 8 years.

Do you think yours will become a 'keeper'?
I suppose if tech. in cars is important to you, then perhaps that might not be possible.

Definitely try the V12VS old shape Vantage if you're looking to spend that sort of money.

There are not many listed on AM's website at the moment, but this one would give you a bit of change: https://preowned.astonmartin.com/preowned-cars/137...

Didn’t you get the memo ? Us newbies only rent our cars, we can’t really afford them and we will add to the demise of AML. In 2 years we will move on to the latest and greatest rental agreement as we are not really worthy of the marque.

It’s a struggle

Compared to the Volvo gear in the older Astons the new Vantage is next century, if that’s your thing and the hot V8 is on a different level from the older engines.

Thanks to all contributors, lots to consider. My current ‘fun car’ is a Cayman GTS which is exclusively a road car as would be the Aston. Mileage wise the new car would be 3/4K a year max. Depreciation will be a major factor In my decision making process as will other potential issues like parking image etc. (If indeed they are issues with an Aston) Somehow Porsche seems, in the main, not to suffer as much as other marques ie Ferrari.

To complicate matters further I’ve been told today I have a allocation for a new Cayman GT4.

My daily is a Range Rover so comfort isn’t a primary factor I also have several motor bikes.

Having driven the Aston I am aware what a magnificent vehicle is, I just have to decided which car ticks all the boxes for my particular purpose and needs.

I had a Cayman S as a weekend car straight after a V8 M3. The Porsche was sublime. But, I missed the V8. Residual wise the new GT4 would be the way to go. £80/90k Astons have dropped hugely But, V8’s are not going to be around for much longer. They look, smell and drive like a new Aston. Enjoy the choices

Horses for courses, in the past I have had two AM Vantages then moved across to Porsche.

First Boxster GTS, then Macan Turbo, then Porsche 911 GTS,

Porsches are very good at everything but to be honest I found them boring.

Looked at the DB11 and new Vantage but to me could not see a reason to change as both tech heavy (and wider) now moved back to a Vanquish.

The Vanquish has a crap sat nav, no apple car play, no electric steering, no lane change or blind spot software, no 360 cameras, no turbo's. That is why I am back with an “older” AM.

I do not want all the tech I just want to drive the car and enjoy it which I now do so more than any of the Porsches, not a knock at Porsche as they are a very different car.

To get back to the topic I would not discount the earlier cars mentioned on this post they are very different to later AM cars.

Apologies, but I have driven a V12V extensively. Fantastic car but prefer the hot V8. The Superleggera on the other hand nails both.

All imo of course.....
