Hi All,
It would be great to hear experiences of owners that have made this move, was it a good move or regretted due to extra weight & size or other?

I did it from a Vantage V8S to a 2015 Vanquish

No regrets as the Vanquish is fantastic in so many ways and I still have it but I did then also go and scratch a Maserati itch wih their CC Box Gransport (similar to AM Sportshift) as I did miss the rawness and pointy-ness of the Vantage.

Did the V8s have the SS gearbox? Were you conscious of the size & weight difference?

Yes it did have SS

Not really conscious of size and weight difference as such, just they are different cars - one Sports, one GT

A friend tried a Vanquish (he owns a v12vs) and thought the Van much more of a cruiser or GT car, the V12VS being more direct and with more involvement. Try one.

I've never driven a vanquish but I suspect the 8 speed zf gearbox is less fussy, set up less rigid with a more compliant ride and a marginal amount of extra space. If these aspects are not interesting for you why would you consider the change?

Not driven a "regular" Vanquish so don't have first hand experience of the non-adaptive dampers, but based on the Vanquish S those and the V12S are quite different beasts.

V12S more focused, Vanquish bigger (+2 virtually unusable rear seats as well) and although it's the better at GT duties it can still definitely get a move on when you want it to but the width is noticeable when you get to narrower roads (some of the width perception may however be fear of clipping the carbon body). Stylistically the V12S is more aggressive, Vanquish more elegant.

If the choice was limited to one or the other I'd probably come down on the side of V12S for weekend drives over interesting roads, Vanquish for longer trips. They're both phenomenal cars but make sure you get a decent test drive if going from one to the other.

My daily driver is a 2017 Rapide S with the 8 speed ZF torque converter which is the same gear box as in the Vanquish 2014+ models and the whole driving experience is comparable. Even more comparable than to compare V12S and Vanquish.
My fun car is a 2016 V12 Vantage S Roadster with Sport Shift 3.
I can tell you: Two different ball games. You can not compare anything to each other. Not the sound, not the response on the road, not the feeling shifting gears. Nothing but the interior which is basicly the same ... (-;
Vanquish (not S!) is a true GT car. Nothing more but also nothing less.
V12S is a true and raw and anachronistic and loud and nasty race car for the road.
Vanquish S moves a little bit, but really just a little bit into that direction.
So if you don't want tt move too far away from your V12S go for a Vanquis S. But if you loved your V12S, than keep it!

Thank you very much for the input tonight, I'm thinking that whilst I love the styling of the Vanquish I don't think the driving experience will match my V12S plus I actually like the SS gearbox. I like Astons & the great service that the main dealers provide but the real killer is how mileage sensitive they are. I use mine virtually everyday & in a year have gone from 16k to 29k miles. Wondering tonight what I could get next that will perform like the V12S but be less mileage sensitive, is there such an animal?

They're not as mileage sensitive as the likes of Ferrari, and depreciate anyway through time. If you're bothered about the depreciation, maybe try a slightly earlier 6-speeder? I would go and try one instead of ruling it out on the basis of forum comments.

Alternatives? AMG GT, 911 Turbo, GT-R, F-type? None of them has either a N/A V12 or the looks of a Vantage...

It,s a shame the new Vantage could not help you out here but i really don't think it could. Very usable everyday car though apparently.

The Vanquish is 47mm wider than the earlier Vantage exc mirrors and 45 mm wider with mirrors, the length is 343mm longer than the Vantage.

From my previous Vantage the width makes no difference when driving but when in the garage the Vanquish is very close to the front of the garage door.

Prefer it to the earlier Vantage, but then again I am getting quite old.

Edited to add:- As per message below the Vanquish including mirrors is 45 mm wider than a Vantage as the Vantage mirrors extend 2 mm wider from the bodywork than the Vanquish

Really? So the mirrors shrink the width by 2mm - that's clever !! biglaugh /s

Thank you for the further replies & thanks LooneyTunes for the alternative car ideas plus the Vanquish advice, yes depreciation is an issue which is made worse by me driving the car daily.

Buy a higher mileage car that has been well taken care of, that way it is already significantly depreciated and you can enjoy it. Also make sure to drive several cars, take forum and Journo opinions with a grain of salt, nothing beats some seat time.

Well, I got to test drive a 2014 Vanquish ( 6 speed gearbox) in Tungsten silver this week & the looks of the car really impressed me, however the drive left me feeling quite flat, this won't come as much of a surprise to some of you as the Vanquish is quite different to my V12VS.
Since having the test drive I've considered a few different cars such as a 991 GTS Targa, but this seems a step back from an Aston & I've had three 911's already.
I read yesterday that the 2015 Vanquish with the 8 speed gearbox & other mods including the suspension has improved the drive, I wonder if it has got any closer to the rawness of my current car? As I still like the look of the Vanquish.
I currently have a black Vantage with lightweight seats, black is an absolute pig to keep clean as a daily driver & whilst the lightweight seats are pretty & comfortable I don't like the way you drop into the car. So I'm considering another V12VS, but perhaps a roadster & in a colour that is easier to manage.
Any comments would be welcome.

I think the only Vanquish that could get close to what you have is an S otherwise another V12VS is the only option.
Porsche wise the only one worth looking at is a 991.2 GT3.
