Right - this is what I think it should be like -

To go back to basic principles, I don't think that the shark aesthetic works, it's trying too hard and it doesn't to me look 'Aston Martin'. I think that car design is getting more rectilinear again, and one possible route for an 'entry level' AM Sports/GT, is to produce something rectilinear, inspired by the William Towns DBS, and leave the sexy curvilinear stuff to the DB11 and DBSS.

This is a quick pen sketch over an image of the current Vantage. Feel free to criticise!!

I’m not a fan of the shut line straight across the bonnet. For me it’s the biggest issue with the new vantage front end. The speedster gives a glimpse of what it could look like without that line and although I’m still not a massive fan of the shark look it is a big improvement to my eyes.

Does not pass lamp minimum height requirements (if you’re proposing this as a production car. Aftermarket body kit, do what you like)

I think there are probably legislation rules, which require the headlights to be higher than that for a road car.
Might be wrong though.

I would like to see a computer image, of a new Vantage with the Speedster front.

This is the primary reason the DB10 nose couldn't become the Vantage's - the headlights were too low, the frontal impact zone wasn't compliant, the wing mirrors were too small etc. Movie cars don't have to comply with any regulations, so anything goes.

CK - You should work for AM !!!

You have actually made me realise the Vantage really does look ok :-0 (joke - no offence intended)

Seriously - for my money to fall into their laps they need to put the speedster front end on the Vantage (and keep the coupe roof of course)

Ok then, on a scale 1-10 of the critique level, I'm going in high, just as you've asked.

What a massive load of bks. And you say AM are trying too hard. Pop a Vantage in the middle of Birmingham Bull Ring and see what reaction it gets. You won't find a sad soul amoung a day's trade who ponder that crap. I only drove locally today, and again I saw and heard nothing but outright praise. You need to get over it, life's moved on and so must the brand. Seriously, you've drawn a picture. Come on man.

I really don’t know what to say. That’s a joke, right? It’s utterly appalling and looks like it’s been drawn by a child. No offence meant, at all, but if AML created a car like that it would be a laughing stock.

OK, remember I am not a professional car designer and I don’t have access to a studio, minions or all the 3D modelling kit that the automotive boys have. I just put a bit of tracing paper over a picture of the new Vantage, and drew something which I personally prefer. So, automotively speaking, a kid did draw it.

Yes, it probably is of the past, as said above.

However, to me the new Vantage is a problem, I don’t lust after one, and I should. And I never will. That front, the ‘Hunter Grille’, really? There is a horizontal prow line across the front, which relates to nothing, and it looks as if they have stuck a splitter from the Valkyrie, a totally random and alien shape, under it. The new option is the same thing, tarted up with grilles. It looks like some particularly ugly fish. Throw in a discombobulated interior and Mercedes running gear, and you have a car I just don’t see the point of. If you guys like it and buy them, I am genuinely delighted, maybe you are seeing something I don’t.

All I’m doing is putting something up for your entertainment. You may have more advanced tastes than I do. And we may be going through an era when weird is good. But from my experience, weird is weird and always will be.

Well said, mansmash! Not just "weird" but "ugly" I would like to add. Underclass style is chic - and has been for more than 15 years or so. Will this ever end?

Here´s to aesthetics drink

Agreed. I thought your sketch was terrible but it really doesn’t matter (and it is far superior than anything I could ever produce). At least you had the balls to put something up. I am not a fan of the new vantage either but as I find when I search AT regularly, the problem is me, because I only like what I’ve got, everything else is flawed. Lol.
